'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Make or break?

Yep, I know that a number of people are 'tired' with talking about the future of manager Steve Cotterill - I kind of pick this up from some comments seen in the forum - although truth of the matter is this is something (his future) that really is getting towards a 'make or break' point, right?

He was given the dreaded 'vote of confidence' last week although, for me, I am sure that CSI will want to 'protect their investment' and if some good points are not picked up in the next few games then something will change...

Given the fact that I was in Corfu for a couple of weeks it really was tough to keep up to date with things, so I cannot say first hand how we played in the games against Blackpool, Peterborough and Leeds?

Although common opinion is that Blackpool was not very good - but we won! Peterborough was a lot better - but we lost, mainly down to some individual errors! Leeds, well it was a case of the norm really. One really poor half and one good one - but we lost again!

With Barnsley (h), Ipswich (a) and then Doncaster (h) coming up in an important week, kicking-off at the weekend, this will 'probably' prove the most important week in Cotterill's reign as Pompey manager.

I do not want to do Barnsley or Doncaster an injustice, but with all due respect to them both, these are games that we 'should' win and I would suspect that CSI will be thinking the same. Ipswich will be tough of course but if we cannot come back with a return of 5-6pts, at least, from these games then there is every chance that they will be Cotterill's last...

Football is a results based business and the results are not, on the whole, what I would imagine CSI would have been expecting so these next 3 games really are vital.

How many points do you expect from these next three games?

I think 6 points from these games would be a good return, 4-5 would be acceptable but anything 3 or less would be poor and do Cotterill no favours. Regardless of these results I feel that SC will be given until Christmas, although the bookies seem to disagree. 6 points or more from these games will give him some breathing space.

I agree with Frippy in the main - 6 points for some breathing space is right but I think CSI will only last to the end of Npovember... a new boss would need time before the January transfer window so I would expect a change start December if things do not improve - I would think sooner if things get worse. There was a rumour that Bristol City were interested in Cotts - maybe thats the way it will go...?

Reported in Daily Mirror today Pompeyweller, Bristol want him. Please, Please, Please let this be one newspaper story thats true!!

Has to be 6 points from these 3 games or I'm afraid he has to go.
bluedr
6 points required, regards potty Cottey I have generally said no decision can be made until the end of October, maybe mid November and I still feel that way, although lots of fans and the bookies don't seem to agree with me. I am not sure how CSI will see Cott as they have been quite calm and deliberate about the way they do things displaying a fair amount of patience; I guess their new commercial manager will have some input.

Make or Break... Looks like the 'break' maybe already prepared for if Bristol City rumours are true!?
PompNut
Barnsley & Doncaster, with all due respect aren't quite Man Utd & Chelsea are they. This team/squad have enough about them to win both these games. If we don't then we will in the bottom 3 & someone needs to held account!!!

Gotta agree with Matt there. These are MUST win home games and a point at Portman Road would be useful too.

Thought Cotts was off to Forest.
