'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Distin: No To Pompey

Distin has claimed that he doesn't want to leave Man City and laughed off the Pompey link.

'I have read about Portsmouth in the newspapers, but I am under contract at Manchester City and can't discuss anything with another club,' he told Foot Transferts magazine.

'I would like to extend my contract at Manchester City. If not, I would have already left. Every year I have opportunities and if I really wanted to, I would have left by now.

'I am trying to find an agreement with City. If that doesn't happen, we will see. I have always said that if I leave for another club it would be to play in Eureopean competitions.

'I have a year left on my contract and at the moment we haven't agreed an extension. We have agreed the length - two extra years - but there remains one or two other details to sort out.

'I can't say what's caused the block. However, it doesn't really have much to do with the financial terms of the new contract.

'The club know my conditions to sort the situation out quickly. It is nowhere near terminal and things are moving.'

On the basis that in a Vital poll,79% of Man City fans thought that they should take the cash on offer for him,it appears to me that Pompey may have had a stroke of good fortune by him not signing. Come to us Sol,you know it makes sense !!!!

Not just saying this as he appears to have now decided he wouln't sign for us, but although he is good would I really have been the only one who did raise an eyebrow when he was linked??? He's a good defender but makes more than the odd mistake. I'm really not too sure he'd bring in much more quality than what we already have central defensively, just another option, this is just my opinion. Obviously the City fans have more than a few doubts over him.

Well, theirs another player who looks like he was signing but isn't! come on Sol, u know u want to!!! Il put money on Harry making at least two signings on the last day. I think most clubs have put the prices up for players because they know we have a bit of dosh, but when they realise their going to have to pay wages etc for another season they will give in & sell!..or is that just wishfull thinking? should have ranted on the hotmail address!

i suppose the simple lack of comment from the FF says volumes about our transfer expectations.

Well it looks like we won't get anyone who's considered a first team regular in the premiership - only the discards from pre-season training and foreigners on poor wages...... Geremi would be a good buy !

I spoke to Tony Adams before the kick off at Dorchester last week and he personally thinks we have the worst defence in the Premiership. He thinks Dejan is to slow he also knows he has his work cut out for the future.

I thought he would've been a good signing for the money, but we've experienced so many non-signings this summer that it's no real surprise....
Tantona
Our central defence worries me. Linvoy will give 110% but sometimes you need much more than that, though I would pick him everytime. Dejan ain't the same without DeZ tidying up. O'Brien is a donkey & should be sold to the first half decent offer & Pamerot, not convinced. Adams should also worry.

Pompey are one of the fancied sides for relegation this coming season. With all of our fantastic signings (sic) you cannot argue with the bookies can you.
