What a difference a day made sang Dinah Washington many years ago and how true it is in Pompey history. Yesterday (4 October) we had one win in thirteen games and today we eight victories!! Yesterday no birthdays and today we have three. Only two defeats as well and they both came in what would turn out to be awful seasons.

Three years ago we had our first experience of the dreaded Europe hangover (game after an away trip to Europe) always dreaded by the so called big clubs. We put Stoke to the sword to kill that tale.

1994 saw us knock the mighty Everton out of the League Cup after a 3-2 at Goodison Park, Paul Hall`s late equaliser sealing the Toffees fate - I enjoyed that one as I took a dyed in the wool Everton fan with me. Did I rub it in?

Poor old Rotherham United will not want to play Pompey on this day again with three defeats and ten goals conceded.

Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities - past or present - who have a birthday on this day...

5/10/1983: Shaun Cooper
5/10/1967: Brian Horne
5/10/1950: Dave Thomas

Now, remember the radio listening 4-1 away defeat to citeh in 1988 as we were hanging on our Div 1 lives, all in vein. As for being there, Newcastle, Everton & Stoke.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
