Martin O`Neil has apparently told Doug Ellis to get Petrov (thought to be up to 6 million). Martin O`Neil will make Petrov his first signing for Villa, according to reports.

This could see Pompey snatch a double deal for Lee Hendrie and Gareth Barry. Although Harry is thought to be looking at a possible deal to bring Owen Hagreaves to Pompey.

Harry is also awaiting Sol Campbell`s decision, which he expects Friday. If Sol sees his future else where then Harry will look to bring in other targets, such as Barry and Distin.

Hope the Petrov thing is wrong, i watched him play in an old firm derdy and he was superb. Radio says we are linked with a Peruvian playing in Argentina called Juan Vargas. Talk sport says he is a full back, having never heard of him i checked & both ESPN & his club web site say he is a midfielder. Anybody know of him?

Owen Hargreaves would be superb, must admit I was one that gave him stick before the WC but he showed his class. At the end of the day you don't play for a club like Bayern Munich for so long if you are a poor player do you. I'd be more surprised to see him sign than any of our other previous, or future targets. He only wants a top four club doesn't he, and we aren't that, well not yet ;)

Juan Vargas is apparently a left sided defender. But maybe he's similar to Matty Taylor in the fact he could play in midfield also? I know little about the guy other than 3 different clubs own his registration or something similarly crazy, which would see a fee split between the 3! The reported £1.6m wouldn't go far would it.

Hargreaves proved us all wrong at the World Cup, and was clearly one of Englands better players at the end of the day. Might prove a tad difficult to lure him to Pompey, but if none of the 'big clubs' are in for him then it could be a possibility.

If petrov went to Villa it would be a right kick in the nuts and would prove the only reason he didn't come to Pompey was because of scummer Gordan.

Nathan Thompson - A Swindon perspective

Prior to his departure for Wigan, Paul Cook wanted Nathan Thompson at Pompey. Interest was retained by Kenny Jackett, who completed his free transfer signing from Swindon last week.

Main man for Pompey? I wouldn't think so

Harsh? Maybe, but do I really feel ex-Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Oldham forward Main will be in Pompey's 1st team, becoming a key member of Jackett's starting XI? Well, no.

Interest in Plymouth midfielder? Unfortunately not

Apparently, having stolen the League Two title from Plymouth, we'll not be taking the Pilgrims' best player, ex-Celtic midfielder Carey, currently out-of-contract at Home Park.
