Pompey team to face Hull?

I have to say that Steve Cotterill surprised me, and in a good way, with his team selection to face West Ham last week.

Bar Mokoena, I had gone for Ward - that energetic enthusiasm, and to be fair ability, that he bring would see him in at right back for me, although to be fair Moko had a decent game at Upton Park and his natural defensive game perhaps works slightly better with the attacking instincts of those ahead of him? - it was almost exactly as I 'wanted' it to be, personnel and set-up wise!

Anyway, due to Lawro's suspension we know that he will make 'at least' one change, as he has to.

To be honest I would 'think' he will only make that one change anyway...

I 'reckon' he will go something like this?

Me, well mine would be pretty much 'as you were' but with a minor positional move for one and a start for another!

So, my line-up...

The reasoning?

I said this ahead of the game last week: 'Lawro just does not have the 'energy' to play wide, granted he puts in a quality ball but a 'freer' central role would benefit all for me as he is not doing nearly enough used out wide'.

Hence why I would put him in a central, free, role. With him suspended we need someone else to fill that role.

The Viking is the man for me...

King Kanu for all his magic will not last, so I would think he would be better off being brought on for the final 15-20-minutes to (hopefully) help us retain what we have at that point.

Moko, for reasons mentioned earlier, retains his place ahead of Ward.

As unlikely as it is to happen I would bring in Williams for the start for these reasons, again like I said last week: 'he is a genuine wide player and has caused problems to sides with his limited time on the pitch this season, I would very much like to see him involved but I am not sure this will happen much this season...'

So, as much as I would like this I cannot see it, but you never know perhaps Cotts is reading again this week like he was last, after all he selected virtually what I 'hoped' he would!

I have a feeling Ward will replace Lawrence, and either play attacking midfield, or go to right back, moving Axe to DM with Mullins, and Chuck playing just ahead of them.

If axe is in midfield I would worry! I agree with Ward though, he is the replacement and should play in midfield. I would still consider bringing Rocha back for axe and push Halford to rightback but I fear its the last weve seen of our popular Portugese.
