Redkanpp met with Sol Campbell yesterday to try and persuade him to join Pompey, using Tony Adams no doubt!

Redknapp told The News today: 'Sol is ready to make his mind up pretty soon. He's not short of offers in this country and abroad.

'He knows all about Portsmouth. But how do I try to convince him to come? By buying him a glass of water at the Butcher and Grill. I just had a chat with him. I'm not sure I can persuade him to come, but we'll wait and see what happens.

'I like Sol. If I could sign him, I would. He's got a lot to offer.'

Pompey now sit and wait. The club also confirmed today that no bid have yet been accepted for either Distin or Anelka! With Pompey telling Celtic that they will pay them 5 million in one fee instead of the 5 million being split. Celtic have rejected this fresh offer and Pompey wait to see if they have a change of heart?

That glass of water should have been Vodka Harry, and then Sol might have lost his focus and signed for us. Campbell might end up in the soup, but he can certainly wear a Pompey shirt along time before he becomes a DOVER SOL.
