Pompey team to face West Ham?

Of course the team that you or I would 'probably' select for the trip to Upton Park tomorrow would be different to what Steve Cotterill would, or does...

The beauty is we have some genuine options now!

I 'think' he will go something like this?

That said will he leave out Kitson - I would not have thought so!

Now, personally - although I prefer a 4-4-2 formation, away from home something that is more like a 4-5-1, with the option of switching to a 4-3-3, is more suited away from home really, right?

So, like I say this would be my line-up...

The reasoning?

Well, for me, Lawro just does not have the 'energy' to play wide, granted he puts in a quality ball but a 'freer' central role would benefit all for me as he is not doing nearly enough used out wide.

The Viking and Varney are more naturally suited to wide roles and can link-up with the lone man, who I would think 'should' be Benji.

You can hit him, he will chase everything down and hold the ball up pretty well to bring others into play. If he runs into the channels, which I think he would, then the more naturally attacking thinking wide players, that are used to a central role , can then cut into the middle themselves offering him the support he needs. And Benji's ability to assist will make him a threat if he does go out wide!

For me, even though I would like to see Rocha John Rocha alongside Pearce, at some point this is arguably our strongest starting 11?

One player that I think can count himself unfortunate to have drifted out of the picture is young Williams - he is a genuine wide player and has caused problems to sides with his limited time on the pitch this season, I would very much like to see him involved but I am not sure this will happen much this season...

the 2nd formation is almost the exact 1 i suggested last night on Chix's chew the fat, so unsurprisingly i completely agree with it lol. Although 1 would personally change it to a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-5-1 with lawro being the deep lying playmaker so given more freedom with mullins sitting and covering the back 4 and Norris in the attacking central role or maybe Eric in that more free role with Williams on the right

i think, given what i go for m@, we could easily turn it into what you say as we could push lawo into a more advanced role.
REALLY do think that williams cannot be ignored, looked a breath of fresh air and a GENUINE wide player which surely you need when playing the way cotts does?

I'd have to go for formation two, think we are going to be on the end of a battering tomorrow for some reason so the more defensive minded players the better for me.

I think/hope it will be the 2nd line up with Kitson up front instead of Benji. Also i feel sorry for Rocha who hasn't started a game since Pearce came into the squad. I know we can't replace Pearce now as so far he has been one our best this season, but Rocha can still do a job and its not fair on him to sit n the bench every game.

I would go for the second formation except i would put the Giant in the CF role rather than Benji...his height and strength against a very strong WHU team..I am not sure whether Papa will be playing..I hope so because think he is awful..worried about Bentley, Lansbury and Baldock potentially ripping us apart though
