Player of the month for August was...

The votes have been cast, counted and verified so we now know that the player of the month for August, as voted for by you the Vital Pompey viewers, was Jason Pearce...

Despite missing the opening 3 games of the season, a couple in the league and the disappointing league cup defeat against Barnet - although only league performances were taken into account here - Pearce slotted into the back four, fitting like a glove!

When I saw his name on the teamsheet to face Reading it raised my eyebrow, and a few other people's I know, although it was soon apparent exactly why he was selected as he was fantastic on the night, just one minor mistake near the end of the game, when he wildly fly-kicked at a ball, in an otherwise flawless display.

He continued with such commanding defensive form claiming the man of the match against Bristol City and ending as runner-up against Cardiff too!

The guy can, and has, played some football on the deck but will also go by the old 'if in doubt boot it out' train of thought that defenders are taught from a young age - he will stick his head in where some might not even a boot and puts his body on the line, a defender very much in the 'old school' mood who leads by example and leads the line well.

I think I have found my next 'man crush' due to the fact that I was a defender myself back in the day and he seems to show all the values you want from a defender, much like myself in the glory days :-)

I would be interested to see how he and Rocha John Rocha would get on as a pairing to be honest, although I doubt we will see this that often...

Credit where it is due to Tal-Ben Haim who claimed a couple of man of the match awards in August and ends as runner-up - a cynic 'might' question if his showings were due to him being in 'the shop window' or if he really will be 'that good' until the end of 2011, at least, now that we know he will be PFC's, unless he goes out on loan, until that time?

Also some credit must go to Aaron Mokoena who also forced himself into contention with a man of the match display against Brighton.

PLEASE NOTE: Only those that picked up Vital Pompey 'man of the match' wins were considered for the player of the month award - the way I see it you can only be in contention for this if people thought you were a standout performer in games played that month!

What the poll asked - MOTM winners but who was player of the month for August?

How you voted - Pearce 62%, Ben-Haim 34%, Mokoena 4%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded?

You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Also vote on the latest poll, 'do you like the new 3rd kit' suggested by PompNut, to your right.

The right choice in my opinion. He's surprised a lot of us, myself included with his tenacity and eagerness. A great signing.
