Pompey to bring in Jed Wallace

Word on the street had it that Pompey were bringing in a midfielder, and this will be confirmed pretty soon by all accounts.

Whilst the club are yet to confirm this it is 'believed' that Jed Wallace will be announced later today...

Lewes manager, who was Wallace's manager at Farnborough, said the following about the 17-year-old: 'Newcastle were all over him to go up there but he passed his medical at Portsmouth on Saturday and has signed a three-year deal. I said all along he would become a professional.

'We are not entitled to any fee but Steve Cotterill, the Portsmouth manager, has said he will bring his full first-team down for a pre-season friendly next year which will be worth a decent amount of money to us.'

This is the midfielder that was 'thought' to have featured in the 'behind-closed-doors' friendly with Swindon last week - if he did or not I could not say?

Apparently the arrival of Futacs last week delayed Wallace's arrival but WOTS was right on this one, or will be near enough when The Pompey Site confirm his arrival...

WOTS= word on the street Graham. And by the looks of it there where actually 2 rumours going around 1 about a player who played in the behind closed doors friendly i.e Futac's (we now know he was the other guy to score) and 1 about a young player who NUFC wanted which seems to be this guy

Yeh i don't think we will be seeing this guy in the first team for a little while. I assume he was just bought to play in Andy Awford's Academy team.

Could see him in about 15 years, just when he is just about passed it- or- more likely - unable to pass it; guess who's disillusioned with our manager. I'm giving him 8 weeks to get it right or I'm going to throw a proper Girly tantrum

Whilst i applaud the signing of youth.......SC for God sake get a grip and sign or loan a creative attack minded midfielder, Or i can't see where the heck the goals are gonna come from...Call me thick, but I think opposing teams might just suss out we're gonna use the wings and nothing else!

And on those wings are an overweight unfit Irishman, and two strikers who cant make up their mind if theyre strikers or wingers...Lets be fair; we dont own a Ryan Giggs or a Nani do we?! We need more options in the creative department! Otherwise we could have 200 strikers, but without decent service, we might as we have 200 defenders...We're not scoring enough goals, and that's an indisputable fact...

Thanks for that..and i think you did explain it dave, but i was having a thickie.. I think SC is perfectly aware that we need a creative middle man and i can see one coming in, either tomorrow or on loan after the prem name thier squads.. although i have a day off work to watch SSN tomorrow..I have a suspicion that we will not sign anyone..

Glad to hear that SC is looking at youth, and nice to hear we are paying clubs with friendlies instead of money, we should have done that from the start!

On that note, do I remember reading somewhere that we once sold a player to a European club (one of the Milan's I think) who in return said they'd play us in a friendly, but it never happened? Dave, I'm looking at you here!

Im just glad we are getting some numbers in, wether they are solid first choices or not, at least this gives us some options should the sh** hit the fan

As Cotterill has mentioned before the emergency window opens in a couple of weeks which is when we are likely to get a couple of loans in. People keep asking for a creative attacking midfielder but seem to forget the decent ones cost alot of money. We're better off waiting for the Prem clubs to finalise their squads and take a decent attacking midfeileder off them on loan.

We were supposed to get a friendly after selling Mark Hateley to AC Milan but it never happened
