Pompey 4-0 With A Benjani Goal!

POMPEY ROMP TO COMFORTABLE VICTORY

Bournemouth 0

Pompey 4 (Benjani, Johnson, Lua Lua, Cummings O.G)

Pompey's recovered from Wednesday disappointing defeat to Southend to record an impressive 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, with goals from Benjani, Glen Johnson, Lomana LuaLua and Matty Taylor. The match saw Richard Hughes return to Dean Court, and Shaun Cooper and Eddie Howe face their former employer.

Pompey started lively and had already missed a chance before Glen Johnson forced former Southampton 'keeper Neil Moss into an easy save. The move was started by some neat footwork by Lomana LuaLua, seeing him beat three defenders. LuaLua himself should then have given Pompey the lead but he was unable to hit the target when in a good position.

Bournemouth themselves threatened to take the lead midway through the first half when Johnson was forced into a goal line clearance from James Hayter`s shot. The game ambled along for a short while, half chances coming and going first for Bournemouth`s Lionel Ainsworth, Benjani putting wide for Pompey, and then Hayter again for Bournemouth, who was unable to hit the target, sending his effort wide.

Following some good work from Sean Davis, LuaLua fed Benjani who with half time approaching gratefully accepted the through ball to beat Moss putting Pompey 1-0.

Having been caught offside twice in midweek resulting in goals being ruled out, half time substitute Svetoslav Todorov was again adjudged offside as he had the first chance of the second half, his effort this time failed to find the net in any case.

With 49 minutes on the clock Johnson scored his first Pompey goal since arriving on loan from Chelsea for the season. Johnson shot home from outside the area following a short corner involving LuaLua and Taylor.

After a flying Moss save to deny Taylor, the third wasn`t far behind. It came through LuaLua volleying home a Todorov pass, again from outside the area.

Pompey controlled the remainder of the match, as they had for the previous part in all truth, and wrapped up victory with a fourth goal as Bournemouth's Warren Cummings put through his own net. After a good run down the right from Johnson, Cummings could only turn the ball into his own net.

Glad to see Banjani score - I hope his confidence will be high by the start of the season ! Did he combine well with Lua Lua - as these two didn't combine so well last season ?

Brilliant goal by Lua Lua. Had to applaud that one. Thanks for the game and a great atmosphere. And no, we are not scummers in disguise, thank you very much :D Best of luck for the season. Don't think you'll need it though!
