What a (rare) dilemma to have!

What a (rare) dilemma to have!

What a change it makes to hear Steve Cotterill actually 'bemoaning' the fact that we have too many players eh!

I cannot remember the last time we managed to fill the bench on a regular basis, let alone managed to fill it with player left 'surplus to requirements' so to speak...

The fact that the subs bench has been reduced to 5 again this season means we are managing to do this with ease these days, with Cotterill disappointed that this is the case, as he would have liked this remaining at 7.

I see what he is saying, but its changed so there is little point moaning about it, you just get on with it and make sure that the 5 selected on the bench give you the 'best options' to change things.

It is just a shame that we do not have a 'proper' reserve team as those not getting into the squad will not that often even have these games to fall back on - then again we do not really have enough numbers to warrant this at this stage...

As I have previously mentioned though, given the squad size increasing and the numbers of youngsters coming through in the years ahead I think it is essential that this area does return next season as it is the 'bridging gap' between the academy and 1st team for these developing youngsters and will also enable those in the 1st team, but not playing regularly, a chance to do so.

'If' we can bring in a few more players then Cotterill will be in dreamland, even if he will have a selection headache as a result, but what a headache to have!

Irrespective of how many are allowed on the bench a squad of 17 outfield players is not enough for a season (or even half of one) .. by the time suspensions and injuries kick-in, not to mention LL, EH and a couple of others missing on international duty then we won't have selection problems. Don't get too excited .. we have the same number of players now as we did when the January transfer window closed .. and back then everybody was moaning (and planning demonstrations) about our small squad size .. I fail to see what is different now .. we have the same number of players .. but all of a sudden instead of a crisis we have selection problems... apparently .. baffles me !!

its probably because we actually own this lot of players though Chix, and once we get a couple more loans in it'll be looking a lot more rosy. Although i still disagree about the reserves Rug, the young players that come through can easily be sent out of loan and theres not really enough of them or players left out of the 1st team to justify spending the money on a reserve team just yet, also i don't see whats wrong with organising a couple of these behind closed door's friendlies everyone month or so to keep the players game fit if thats your concern.

Basically, sending players out on loan helps more. I can't see a point in playing in reserve league no one wants to play in! There is no benefit for the players themselves!

That's right Chix. I suppose it's a combination of being down to less than a 1st team at the end of the season and the euphoria of having signed some 'permanents'.
