If that is the way so be it...

If that is the way so be it...

...lets just get it done!

What am I talking about you might ask?

Well, I am talking about Steve Cotterill's recent comments about 'using the loan market' to bring in further players.

To be honest it is always nice to actually own the players but if you use the loan market in the right way then it will not do our squad any harm will it?

We have a 'decent' 1st team squad of about 18-players now I reckon, although I am not convinced that Christian Dailly is going to get another month when his initial 'short-term' contract expires, so that will 'possible' see the numbers drop by one...

Even so, having around 17-players, should that happen, that we own is not bad going by PFC's standards really is it!

As said it would be nice to be owning the players but if they are the right players for the right price then I have no problem with us bringing in a couple, even a few, hell as many as 5 loanees so long as it benefits PFC.

We need to get the squad up to around 20-players, and could do with a genuine out-and-out striker among these arrivals, and that really will make us competitive this season.

I still have this 'sneaky suspicion that Grant Leadbitter will sign before the month is out, so would not rule out one final 'permanent signing', although I have little to back this up of course!

'Word on the street' also has Jimmy Bullard down as someone that has 'been at Fratton' recently and his signing could well happen?

'If' he could stay injury free and 'if' he was on the right money I would have him signed up in a heartbeat, the problem is there are some pretty big ifs attached to this!

Whatever we are doing, building on the moves we have already made in the last 7-10 days to strengthen the squad, it would be nice if we could do a 'little bit more' this week before Cardiff come to town...

It's one area where I've been very happy with SC. As I've said many times before, a team of loanees can never be 'my' team. In the unlikely event that they won us something it would be courtesy of Stoke, Wolves or whoever. I would rather support a team of 'also-rans' than a team of loanees pushing for promotion. Having said that, if we've run out of money then a couple as 'backup' wouldn't upset me.

i think your right about leadbetter, don't think he's happy playing for jewell, and he needs a fall guy after saturday! who better than the player you just made captain for reasons best known to jewell, mind you messi would have been hard pressed to look good in that performace by ipswich, dont know about bullard though think he's past his best hull don't want that says it all really, would rather sc loaned someone with an option to buy.

We need some midfielders! We've got about 8 defenders and 5 strikers/fowards. "Out-and-out" strikers are too rare and I think if we signed another striker, that would leave us with too much competition for starting 11 places. If anything we need some creative midfielders!

    Vital View - League 2, 14th January 2017

Doncaster retained a healthy lead at the top ahead of Plymouth and Carlisle. Cheltenham moved above Notts County with only Newport below them in the Football League now.

Video - Pompey 2-1 Leyton Orient

Conor Chaplin made up for missing a penalty - the third spot kick in a row I think we've missed isn't it? - with a brace as Pompey deservedly saw off Leyton Orient 2-1 at Fratton Park.
