HUGHES COMMITS FUTURE TO POMPEY

Pompey today not only unveiled their first permanent summer signing in David Thompson, but also announced the news that Richard Hughes has signed a new long-term deal.

Scottish International Hughes, 27, has agreed terms on a new three-year contract with the club, putting to rest any whispers that he could move along the coast to Southampton.

The Italian raised former Atalanta, Arsenal and Bournemouth youngster has not always been a regular first choice for Redknapp since his signing in 2002, but his effort, commitment, and battling displays, in particular against Spurs at White Hart Lane last season alone are reasons enough for this new deal. These qualities even saw him captain the side in one Premiership match last season.

Hughes will return to Dean Court with Pompey tomorrow for the clubs latest pre season friendly against Bournemouth.

He's a good, honest, hard working guy isn't he. He knows what his qualities are and sticks to them, much like Primus. We need his type around

There is decent left back at Rochdale. A useful right winger at Mansfield & the goalie at MK Dons is ok. God help us if we are looking beyond the few promising players in the fizzy pop leagues.

My Mum is available on a free, and the wage bill will be very small. Mind you if she doesn't make the squad she will definitely improve the standard of cusine at the Park.

What is it with Danny Higginbotham? Why have we consistantly been linked with him over the years!!! I've already offered my services, been out the game for a few years due to my inforced retirement but they can work miracles nowadays can't they, fly me over to see Dr Steadman, or whoever he is in America, at 26 I've got some life let in me yet 'Arry....

I don't think he'll get a very good reception at Dean Court today!

Good honest player who knows his limitations. Will always have time for him after his "tackle" on quashíte against the scum.
