Harry: Petrov Not Worth It

Harry Redknapp has given up on Petrov after offering 5 million.

'As far as I'm aware Celtic have turned down our £5million bid and I think that's it over. I couldn't honestly recommend to the club to pay any more for the boy,' he told the Scottish Sun.'

'I have a high regard for Petrov's talent and I'd have been delighted to have signed him, but enough is enough.'

'I believe we were the only club in for Petrov and I reckon Celtic might find it difficult getting better money than that.'

Still not sure this really will be it for the Petrov deal, maybe for now and we'll go back at the end of the window or possibly in January? You can't question his ability but although a lot will disagree I think that £5m is more than enough for the player
pompeyrug
why dont they just stick him on ebay with a reserve price, if we meet it we get him! this all said, as we have not agreed a price with celtic, then we should not have spoken to him, so who says we will agree terms with him?
danonash
Adds fuel to the rumour that Strachen hasnt forgiven Harry for taking his precious Scum down, and then come back to mighty Pompey to show a Great escape Should be done.

It's that sort of attitude that don't half p!ss you off, Celtic never wanted to sell in the first place so to say we will find it hard to get better money sounds as if we put him on the transfer market in the first place.
paulmac67
they where talking about 5 mill not 3.5 mill, so we offer 5 mill??? You watch him go to someone for 4 mill
lmatthews
They said they wanted 5 for him. We offer five and they say no. Seems silly to me. Why didn't they just say they wanted 5.5 or 6 etc.

Sod the jocks (slang term for someone from Scotland, eg. Jock Stein) & their games. If they don't want to sell him to us (rather than sell him), let the player rot. He won't do Celtic any favours.

you know what, no-one really knows what has happened between the two clubs £5M was speculation. Between Tony Mcgill (Petrov's agent) and Harry Rednapp they've done nothing but unsettle Petrov, i'm sorry i don't believe a word that comes out of your managers mouth. Storagematt i'm fed up upsetting some of your members but are you really as stupid as you sound.
paulmac67
When player wants to leave most clubs let that player go. They have a price in mind & we probably came close to it, otherwise we wouldn't have kept making a bid. PM67 Go **** urself.

Well lads I have to say now that he appears not to be PETROVED to anyone and may have to remain at Celtic, against his will. This may not prove to be a good thing for the Bhoys and we may have missed out too on a player who can rejuvinate when given a bigger challenge. What appeared to be a WIN/WIN situation may now indeed be the direct opposite. I know Harry is not popular with the Celts but what do you think that most Pompey fans think of Strachan. Enough said, January maybe, but there again by then perhaps nobody, including Celtic will want him.
pompeygray
Another point, if Strachan has an inherent desire to never trade with Pompey and Harry, then he could be accused of ignoring good economical judgement, something that his board should be looking at more closely. You cannot let personal grievances hinder your decision making.

Come on guys lets chill out here. We want Petov for obvious reasons, Celtic want to keep Petrov, again for obvious reasons. We've placed bids which they see unfit. Personal feelings getting in the way in the part of Strachan or not, I have to go with paulmac to a degree on this we don't honestly know what is going on between the two clubs do we? Only they and agents know what has been offered and asked etc. As for unsettling Petrov I'd have to disagree, he decided long before our, or any other interest he wanted to leave, once he did that he only unsettled himself.
pompeyrug
Storage i really thought you could do better than that .I'm not to sure about Strachan not wanting to deal with Pompey is a relevant point, I think Strachan no matter what has happened in the past would not be as childish as to not do a deal that does not suit him. For me i think Strachan really does not want to get rid of Stan (even though this is more or less kidnapping) we need him for the Champions League.
paulmac67
PM67. You started the personal insults & as for champions league, let's see how far you get?
storagematt
ahhh now i'm offended and it was not me who started it, it was you and now i'm gonna get my dad on you, cos my dads bigger than your dad...........From your ever loving snot jock scum friend.Bring on the best Europe has to offer laugh as you may but there's nothing like a European night in Paradise.
