The man to 're-energise' us?

The man to 're-energise' us?

The announcement at the weekend just before the Brighton game kicked-off that Benjani had returned was greeted with a HUGE roar.

Quite clearly, whilst there will be some 'concerns', his return will be liked by more for than again and Steve Cotterill, as he told The Pompey Site, thinks this will help us.

He thinks that he is the man to 're-energise' us: 'he's a fantastic lad who brings energy. He's already given everybody a lift. He'll bring strength and a big heart.

'I spoke to him on Thursday night to see if he wanted to come here. He'd already turned down an offer from Blackburn.

'We finalised it on Friday night and he flew down on Saturday morning, signed and trained at Eastleigh.

'He may not have played that much lately but he's been fit. We've just got to get him up to speed.'

Without a doubt, assuming he can stay fit, the guy will offer us something in Cotterill's favoured 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation that he loves.

He will run all-day long, never give up and not once not give his all.

On that front I cannot think of anyone better for us to have, although he will not bring the goals that we need will he, so I do 'hope' that we are still looking to bring in another striker - and an 'out-and-out' striker at that, even if it is a premier league loanee...

Whilst CSI have done a good job since their arrival, and in some ways they cannot win in some peoples eyes I would say that the cynic in me, sorry to be negative or somewhat sceptical, worries that this is a 'publicity stunt' to appease the fans and little more movement in the transfer market will be made in the next couple of weeks?

Although that is a cynical view of course - and not one that I entirely think will be the case, although that thought is going to be in the back of the minds of a lot I would think...

Can Benji prove he is not 'passed it' or 'finished' after some injury problems in recent years?

Well, time will tell...

I very much doubt that he will but Cotterill may as well chuck him straight in tomorrow night, let him lead the line and see if he can hit the ground running. Now a full-hearted performance and maybe even a cheeky goal would certainly boost us all and 're-energise' us.

Glad benji is back, just hope he can rediscover his form just before he left us. Still annoys me to this day as I think our run in for the 2008 FA Cup would have been alot easier with him playing. Still I suppose we one it, but we should have never sold him in the first place. Welcome home Benji! PUP!

Q1;Why did he turn down the Blackburn offer? Q2; why do Pompey need re- energising after 2 games? Q3; What's wrong with 4,4,2 it's what the type of players we have know? Q4;where's the cover; he's injury prone; is it the guy from Bari? Benji will get goals in this league 17 wasn't a bad haul, and he has the experience; if he can stay fit. But he may as well start, Lawrence and Mullins aren't up to much, big Dainty Kitten is finally working but needs to be more composed.

Pleased to see him back. Hoping he will be able to hit the ground running - he'll need to if we are to be "re-energised". Wish I'd been at FP when his return was announced!

Time will tell if this is a good move, but I'm glad to get him in. We know what to expect, albeit a few years down the line. He may need a few games to shake off the rust of having not played much since he left us, but fingers crossed he'll show us what we've been missing.

    Cookie pleased with Bournemouth showing

You cannot always gage too much from pre-season can you. Although the game with Bournemouth tends to again show Pompey have goals in us this season...but we'll concede them too?

Pompey and Bournemouth play out 3-3 draw

Those who turned up in the Fratton sunshine for Alan McLoughlin's benefit match with Bournemouth would view it as an afternoon well spent with it value for money.
