'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Finally a 'link' again!

Never have 'those three words' been welcomer for me!

What three words you ask?

These all-important three words, the ones that you can tire of hearing although words that we have not been hearing nearly enough recently...

'Sky sports understands' of course, what else would I have meant!

Movement of players in, Christian Dailly aside, has been slow for the best part of a month, even the 'rumours' had been drier than the Sahara...

Well a 'link' has come in!

Danny Haynes, via sky sports and what they 'understand', is that link with them saying: 'A host of clubs are battling to land Barnsley striker Danny Haynes.

'The 23-year-old only moved to South Yorkshire in January when he arrived from Bristol City. But it already looks as if he could be leaving Oakwell less than 12 months into his career with the Tykes.

'Skysports.com understands a number of Championship clubs are keeping close tabs on him.
It is believed Portsmouth, Burnley, Leicester and Hull City are all monitoring the situation
.'

Whilst the 'understands', 'believes' or 'expects' thoughts from sky sports, The News, BBC etc. can wear a little thin at times not signing any players or having any 'links' to players or any 'rumours' of interest at all make the lack of movement all the more frustrating really.

Will we actually sign Haynes, are we even in for Haynes?

I cannot answer that, although at this point in time I would welcome almost any striker and 'if' the types of club 'said' to be after him really are after him then we could do worse it seems...

Exciting isn't it, we are in for a player, alongside reportedly at least 3 other clubs. Hopefully their understanding will be spot on for a change.
    PompeyFrippy
What sort of fee are we talking here? Surely not 2.5 like Patterson?
    moley2
It shouldn't be that much, but a young player with potential who's still in contract would probably cost a bit.
    PompeyFrippy
True, but if correct that we did actually bid 2.5mil surely Barnsley will up their valuation of the player.
    moley2
Based on the 4 clubs supposedly linked with Haynes I would think our offer would probably be 3rd or 4th choice to him so I won't get too excited.
    bluedr
Maybe blue, but would he be more likely to get a game at Pompey or Leicester?

From the News: "Steve Cotterill is ‘hopeful’ David Lampitt can bring in more Pompey signings before the week is out. The Blues’ chief executive is currently hard at work closing in on Cotterill’s wish list. It has proven to be a frustrating period for all concerned as the wait for new additions goes on. As it stands, Greg Halford was Pompey’s last permanent recruit – 36 days ago. Since then they have been thwarted in their pursuit of a number of targets, including Peter Whittingham, Ian Evatt and Martin Paterson."

Start targeting players that are available then !!?? That would help! I know they keep saying not many players out their available but are rivals have managed to sign some descent players since we signed halford .. And not for anything near the 2.5m we Offerd for Patterson..

I dont really care if this rumour has legs or not! i was so bored without any rumours that i began making them up!
    Pompey-N.I
i don't understand why we're not looking at some of the freebies out there as there's quite a few who could do a good job for us but haynes would be a good signing if we can get him for a reasonable fee
    pompey4ever
Wellyit, I'd be surprised if Leicester are even looking at Haynes. I think their aspirations are higher than that, no disrespect to the lad.
    bluedr
Is he related to Johnny Haynes??

Agree with NI though enuff rumours - more signings.

Is that the sound of a riot, no, Rugs head has just exploded.

I'm not sure what the rules are exactly but can he move again for a fee within a year of signing for a club or does he need special dispensation from the FL.... I seem to remember something along these lines? As for signing him - why not!
    pompeyweller
If we did sign him, and I doubt we wll, He has a name in Pompey History (I seem to recall) that will be hard to live up to.

I remember first noticing Haynes at Kanus friendly two years ago, he looked quick as lightning and had a good touch and I think he was Ipswich at the time. He doesnt look too bad.
