Pompey rumours - 30th July (Anichebe)
Its been pretty quiet on the old 'rumours' front, let alone the actual transfer front, for Pompey recently has it not?
Got to say that I do not buy much into this at all, but pompeym@ has picked this interesting one up, albeit an almost dead cert not to happen, and shared it in the forum ( Strikers - Potential Transfer Targets for Pompey - here) this evening...
'Couple of days ago this rumour popped up out of no where

portsmouth are GOING TO BID FOR VICTOR ANICHEBE in the region of £4 mil. this is, however, unlikely.
Which I didn't bother thinking to much into but today I've heard Anichebe mentioned elsewhere and he's just popped up on the rumour site again.

Everton strike Victor Anichebe is set to undergo a medical at Portsmouth on Monday after agreeing personal terms with South Coast club.
So it might actually have some grounds in truth, its no secret Everton are desperate for money (after being out bid by a champ club for a player worth £150k..) and Anichebe is definitely a fringe player at best so maybe we really are after him.
Would be a pretty good signing if you ask me, he's young (23), strong and fast and could do a good job up top by himself. He doesn't have much pedigree after only scoring 7 in 91 apps for Everton but they've primarily been on the wing and a step down and playing in a more central role might do him a world of good.
Hope its not really for £3-4mil though.
Rug's views, for what its worth...
Would I take Anichebe?
Quite simply yes, although I would take us signing virtually any striker at the moment!
To be fair I think you sum up his qualities, 'young', 'strong' and 'fast' - I would add to that, I would assume, 'hungry'. Again like you say his goalscoring record is not great but given a frequent opportunity, and ideally as an out-and-out striker he would do the business at this level.
Would I want us paying 'much money' for him?
Nope, then again I do not think we should be splashing much for anyone given our current status and the fact that 'lavish spending' was the primary reason we ended up in our mess!
Alas I would doubt that there is much truth, if any, to this rumour...
These 'rumours sites' trawl through t'internet to snuffle up whatever they can find so fear not Matt I would doubt that there is an interest, let alone a fee being agreed and paid by PFC as obscene as £3-4m for the Everton man, or anyone else for that matter!
Well, there 'may' be a little more to this than meets the eye?
There may well have been an approach for Anichebe, although this would have been/is an approach to take him on loan - seems a more realistic rumour!
PLAY UP POMPEY!
