'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...

Steve Cotterill does not like the kids, rubbish... Ok, perhaps not rubbish!

Finally though it seems as though he is ready to take a chance on a youngster - and at only 17 he really is a youngster and a youngster who has come from nowhere really to make quite an impact on the boss this summer...

Back along I wrote something about Ryan Williams and how he 'might have a chance' this season, and it seems as though he will.

Cotterill today told The News this: 'he is still very small, only 17, but I think everybody is of the same opinion that he has shown good potential so far.

'We have still got to remember he is a young boy, but he is certainly one we might have hopes for in the future.

'I don't know Ryan's best position at the moment. He is too young for me to know that so I won't go making predictions. He's a 17-year-old boy we would like to bring through.

'Whether it is right-wing, centre forward or left-wing, he played all of those roles the other night and looks a good young player.

'We just hope, physically, he develops into a man.'

I would not 'expect' Williams to be starting games, at least not early in the season anyway, but it would seem that he has every chance of being an 'impact player' from the bench - and that would not be a bad thing!

Should the Aussie youngster do the business as/when called upon then as the season goes on there is no reason why he could not become a starter, right?

17-years-old or not, if he is good enough he is old enough!

This is a refreshing change of stance from Cotterill and I like it a lot, long may this continue and long may this be an encouraging sign that other youngsters will be given the chance in the future...

Lewis Stockford, also in America with the 1st team at the moment, and Lewis Tallack are 1st year professionals although neither of these will be making the breakthrough at PFC, yet at least.

Cotterill wants these to be sent out on loan this season.

Without wanting to put too much pressure on Williams, or wanting to expect too much - given the fleeting glimpses that we have seen of him thus far he 'looks' like one to watch...

I was impressed by him against Chelsea, good forward running, thought he could of been a bit more aware of his team mates but definitely looks an excellent prospect.

Very good news to be sure, we'll be watching the lads progress with interest

Always nice to see one of the youth team come through, you always feel they have the team more at heart, even an Aussie youth player!

Saw him in the Youth Cup tie in January and looked a good young prospect based on what I saw then. Good to see him being given a chance in the first team at 17.

I've got a mate called Ryan Williams, he slips into the fat and nearly 40 bracket though!

Paul, Ryan isnt still playing is he ? Christ he must really struggle to wobble around the pitch now.

It seems though SC is being more careful what to say. Good, good news this is... Maybe, the youngsters we had in the past and have been shown the door, weren't really good. Time will tell!

He has a go occasionally Jase, broke his foot last year though, put him off a bit!

Is Cott ill?

Well, Tom Kilbey wasn't offered a contract by Lincoln (?) after going there on loan. Haven't heard *anything* about the others (recently). Don't forget SC doesn't have the option of a reserve team - so has to send them out on loan to give them 'game time'. Else best he can risk doing is putting maybe one on the bench - and in our predicament we couldn't risk 3 at once. So maybe he knows more than most fans after all... (I've a feeling he does!)

It would be great to see Williams on the bench this season. I must say he had a foray forward against Chelsea that impressed me, even had the gusto to try a shot from 25 yards which not many players his age would think of. He seems hungry for it and I think bringing him on with 10 minutes to go and the game level would show how much he wants this.
