One that has a chance?

One that has a chance?

Before I kick-off here I am not going all out 'anti-Steve Cotterill', so please do not think this. I merely make my point based on previous...

In a potential rare 'against the grain' move a youngster 'might' have a chance of forcing his way into Steve Cotterill's 1st team plans this season?

Ryan Williams is the man, sorry young man, in question.

Whilst he is still very young and expectations of what he 'could' do for PFC need to be kept in check for the talent that the Aussie has to be catching Cotterill's eye enough for him to give a rare show of public praise for a youngster must mean that he has something about him?

Cotterill thinks Williams is 'potentially a prospect'.

He has not said that about many other youngsters previously or any of the others, more highly thought of by all accounts, here either so it is promising...

One, that Cotterill said would be, of only two kids - Lewis Stockford the other, who also seems to be catching Cotterill's eye - taken to America this offers a further 'glimmer' that he may well be part of Cotts' 1st team plans this season?

To be honest I would think it is still more likely that Williams will simply 'make up' the squad numbers to begin with this season, if he even does that, and a spell away from Fratton this season on loan could well happen but in the not too distant future perhaps he could be a 1st team squad member regularly...

I do hope so, as PFC becoming more and more self-sufficient is something we need to see more of in the future - if this starts earlier than any of us might have even contemplated seeing then what a bonus it would be!

I suspect playing safe will be Cott's primary selection criteria this season.

it would be great to see some kids come through and hopefully williams, stockford and magri will all get chances this season as they could all be decent back up for the first team. playing them against barnet could be a good idea

I think he could play a few games for us this season. He has played really well in the two pre-season games so far and has some great skills and techniques. He has allot of pace and is great with both feet, for example during the Havant game he set up one of the goal from a cross on his weaker foot. But i've been hear allot of people saying that he shouldn't be too rushed in otherwise he probably won't be able to play the best to his ability. Which is right, i think maybe this season he should play a few games and some as a sub but shouldn't go out on loan anywhere and maybe the season after he could do what Joel Ward did and become a regular player for Pompey.

they have skill yes but in this league they'd get ripped apart. At 17 not many players have anywhere near the physical strength they need so i'll be really surprised to see any of them this season, and imo too right as well cause you need to protect our future

Didn't Trevor Francis play at top level from age 0f 16?

Duo sign professional Pompey deals

Will Jez Bedford and Theo Widdrington be the future Pompey midfield? We'll certainly hope so, clearly the Blues do too or they wouldn't have signed professional deals at Fratton Park.

Nathan Thompson - A Swindon perspective

Prior to his departure for Wigan, Paul Cook wanted Nathan Thompson at Pompey. Interest was retained by Kenny Jackett, who completed his free transfer signing from Swindon last week.
