Pompey Set For Double Swoop...

Pompey Set For Double Swoop...

Pompey are poised to make a double swoop! We are all sick of rumours with no foundation so I`m going to explain where these latest player rumours have come from.

The two players that Pompey are apparently set to swoop for are Jermaine Pennant and Andy Reid.

Andy Reid swoop was brought to my attention last week when a gentleman called Jon emailed me regarding a possible double swoop from Portsmouth for Andy Reid and Danny Murphy from Tottenham. An agent was on his dad`s boat, (which his dad hires out) he was a guest of David Chissick and Mark Johnson. The agent was apparently talking about the transfer of Andy Reid and hinting that Danny Murphy may leave as well.

He could well be Andy Reid`s agent himself but Vital Pompey is confident that this agent doesn`t represent Danny Murphy. So I looked into the possible deal, living in London I knew a few people with Tottenham connections.

It looks likely that Tottenham will allow Portsmouth to have Andy Reid with Lua Lua going the other way.

Peter Thompson a Tottenham fanatic said, "The deal makes sense for all concerned, Reidy wants first team football and Lua wants more money. You can give Reidy first team football and we can offer Lua more money."

"This deal was supposed to happen in January with the other three Tottenham players but it didn`t materialise." This is thought to be because Harry was struggling to bring one striker in and loosing Lua would have meant he`d have had to have found two of them!

The Jermaine Pennant swoop may be less likely after Birmingham quoted such a high fee for the player. Portsmouth have apparently already tabled an enquiry for the player being quoted in the region of 6 million for the right winger.

I have been informed that Harry is ready to pay up for the majority of the 6 million being demanded by putting in an offer in the region of five million pounds. Birmingham are holding out for a high price however with 25% of the fee going to Arsenal. Pompey face stiff competition with Liverpool, who have already had a 3.5 million pound bid rejected.

Bruce said, 'There's only been one bid, that's all, three weeks ago. It was around £3.5 million and we paid £3 million for him plus we owe Arsenal 25 per cent of any sell-on. So we won't sell him for £3.5 million - that's for sure.

I for one would love to see Pennant sign and he is the sort of exciting young English player that Portsmouth are after. Watch this space on both players…

Not sur about the dumpling Reid, we can do better than that.

So if Blua Lua leaves in the other direction, that leaves us practically no options up front? Toddy's injury prone, and Benji would appear to need a goalscorer alongside him to really shine. Scratch that deal. As for Pennant, good player who always looked dangerous against us, he'd be a welcome addition to the squad.

Les, you've been spending too many lonely afternoons in this scorching sun...seems to have affected you! Andy Reid I could understand, but not a chance with Pennant.

i would like 2 see Pennant come, not 2 keen on Reid, i would rather have Danny Murphy come and feel the D'Alessandro rloe he had last season

I agree with Les. The Pennant deal wouldn't surprise me at all. He's not going to stay at Birmingham - a move to us would actually appeal to him. It's going to take a good cash offer to make City release him,we have good cash. It would free up Gary O'Neil for his more favoured central position too. I also think we'll sign at least 2 strikers even if Lua Lua stays.

So, in conclusion, Pompey aren't actually poised to make a double swoop at all!! Touche Les, touche.

Maybe Redknapp can bring the best out of Reid again, but I've never been a huge fan. He's good don't get me wrong, but would he really be that much of an improvment? Murphy would be a better option than Reid, but I'm not so sure he'd want to join us? Pennant I really like, gets at people, delivers a superb ball. We have the money Birmingham want, so if he'll sign, unless Liverpool match what we offer we'd get him.
