Pompey Set For Double Swoop...

Pompey are poised to make a double swoop! We are all sick of rumours with no foundation so I`m going to explain where these latest player rumours have come from.

The two players that Pompey are apparently set to swoop for are Jermaine Pennant and Andy Reid.

Andy Reid swoop was brought to my attention last week when a gentleman called Jon emailed me regarding a possible double swoop from Portsmouth for Andy Reid and Danny Murphy from Tottenham. An agent was on his dad`s boat, (which his dad hires out) he was a guest of David Chissick and Mark Johnson. The agent was apparently talking about the transfer of Andy Reid and hinting that Danny Murphy may leave as well.

He could well be Andy Reid`s agent himself but Vital Pompey is confident that this agent doesn`t represent Danny Murphy. So I looked into the possible deal, living in London I knew a few people with Tottenham connections.

It looks likely that Tottenham will allow Portsmouth to have Andy Reid with Lua Lua going the other way.

Peter Thompson a Tottenham fanatic said, "The deal makes sense for all concerned, Reidy wants first team football and Lua wants more money. You can give Reidy first team football and we can offer Lua more money."

"This deal was supposed to happen in January with the other three Tottenham players but it didn`t materialise." This is thought to be because Harry was struggling to bring one striker in and loosing Lua would have meant he`d have had to have found two of them!

The Jermaine Pennant swoop may be less likely after Birmingham quoted such a high fee for the player. Portsmouth have apparently already tabled an enquiry for the player being quoted in the region of 6 million for the right winger.

I have been informed that Harry is ready to pay up for the majority of the 6 million being demanded by putting in an offer in the region of five million pounds. Birmingham are holding out for a high price however with 25% of the fee going to Arsenal. Pompey face stiff competition with Liverpool, who have already had a 3.5 million pound bid rejected.

Bruce said, 'There's only been one bid, that's all, three weeks ago. It was around £3.5 million and we paid £3 million for him plus we owe Arsenal 25 per cent of any sell-on. So we won't sell him for £3.5 million - that's for sure.

I for one would love to see Pennant sign and he is the sort of exciting young English player that Portsmouth are after. Watch this space on both players…

Not sur about the dumpling Reid, we can do better than that.

So if Blua Lua leaves in the other direction, that leaves us practically no options up front? Toddy's injury prone, and Benji would appear to need a goalscorer alongside him to really shine. Scratch that deal. As for Pennant, good player who always looked dangerous against us, he'd be a welcome addition to the squad.

Les, you've been spending too many lonely afternoons in this scorching sun...seems to have affected you! Andy Reid I could understand, but not a chance with Pennant.

i would like 2 see Pennant come, not 2 keen on Reid, i would rather have Danny Murphy come and feel the D'Alessandro rloe he had last season

why not pennant? if we are the only club that can match their demands then he will join us over staying there

we would buy another striker

I agree with Les. The Pennant deal wouldn't surprise me at all. He's not going to stay at Birmingham - a move to us would actually appeal to him. It's going to take a good cash offer to make City release him,we have good cash. It would free up Gary O'Neil for his more favoured central position too. I also think we'll sign at least 2 strikers even if Lua Lua stays.

So, in conclusion, Pompey aren't actually poised to make a double swoop at all!! Touche Les, touche.

Maybe Redknapp can bring the best out of Reid again, but I've never been a huge fan. He's good don't get me wrong, but would he really be that much of an improvment? Murphy would be a better option than Reid, but I'm not so sure he'd want to join us? Pennant I really like, gets at people, delivers a superb ball. We have the money Birmingham want, so if he'll sign, unless Liverpool match what we offer we'd get him.

Bit harsh maybe Noumea? Rumours are rumours because they are just that? Thought the whole point of the site was to tell people what you hear, what you think, and what will or might happen? The vast majority of all rumours, for any clubs not just ours fail to materialise (even though at this point in time it may seem like it!) but although it gets frustrating when nothing comes of it we all pay attention to them, and look at them, even if we don't believe? If nothing was to go on this site, fact or fiction, people will be unhappy at having nothing to look at, nothing to talk about, and will soon go elsewhere

Rumours are things we the non press talk about! If I had been presented such info as a journalist then I would want to be positive that it wasnt just someone of the street possibly from scummerland sending me a wind up for fear of looking like a pratt

how many more people are pompey gonna sign then, you can probably have reid and murphy, cant see them getting much action this season.

But how many stories as reported in the press are born out of rumour or speculation, at times do press journalists really have the proof for what they print? Reporters spot a player or manager in the company of another player or manager, or in an unfamiliar area and then just report on it, they must be joining so and so, or so and so must be leaving? Sometimes something comes of it, other times its mere speculation so there is no positive proof behind these things? But we do pay for that kind of press don't we, so you would expect, or at least hope more of the rumour or speculation had fact to back it up, this is FREE. At the end of the day I guess rumour, speculation, scandal etc. is what most want to read about anyway?

i hear we are interested in Geremi of Chelsea and Scott Carsen of Liverpool and we are prepared to make a £4mil offer for Sylvan Distin! i got these all from teletext so it must be true! personally id like to think we could land Geremi (loan + sign at end of season?), not sure about Scott and Sylvan... well i know we are looking for a proven goalscorer but he scores in the wrong goal!! as for this article, reid would be a squad player, murphy would be good but i cant see him moving from spurs after only just joining them, pennant is the only one that could make a difference! actually i have just read that liverpool have had a £6mil offer accepted for Pennant and he is expected to sign before the end of the week. scott carson is believed to be worth about £4mil if liverpool are willing to let him go on a perm transfer (depending on whether dudek is happy as no2), if not we will bid for a season long loan.

Just to remind your Pennant has experince of religation from Leeds & Birmingham two years on the trot. I don't want him to experience a hat-trick if he signs for Pompey.

Id rather have Dudek than Carson. He has full premiership experience and a Champion League winners medal. Dudek & Mendes could show off together lol

We are accustomed to getting beaten in the transfer market, so what's the difference. Probably the money we now have will force clubs to ask for more making it even harder. We are a club with passion but it seems we are not considered to be ambitious enough for the likes of most players out there.

No one else wants Pennant so it is over to Pompey, Ried is basically untried at Spurs so it is not a case of bringing the best out of him again but I hope the pies are good on the South Coast. You are welcome to Danny Murphy so there is your double swoop but please keep Lua, I would rather we gave you Murphy. Pedro Mendes, the Spurs cast off got you back scoring, winning and staying up Nelson.

You can't blame him for that. We will continue to miss out on quality players unless we pay too much for them. The transfer market is a rat race these days...agents, greedy players, poaching, rumours not to mention the mighty quid that is now available to the few. No wonder families can't afford to go to the game. It's disgraceful. Can anyone tell me that it is worth 30 quid to watch our beloved team in a ramshackle stadium with Roman facilities. The last time I was at Fratton it reminded me of the Colleseum. And yes I fork out over 200 quid to go to a VIP game when in the UK. Tell me where is the value in that !!

so, if liverpool are signing pennant and pennant has taken two teams to relegation id like to see him try and take pool down to the championship!
