'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Still chasing Paterson?

A man 'linked' with Pompey for a while now has been Martin Paterson.

By all accounts we have had one, if not two, offers rejected so far - although Steve Cotterill, apparently, remains keen to sign the striker...

'Word on the street' has it that we are, or have been, in with an improved offer?

It seems to make sense as Eddie Howe has been quite vocal about Burnley wanting to keep him.

The guy is proven at this level although my reservations about him are caused by his injury record in recent years, so I think we have to be especially careful when signing players with a bit of history of this.

Of course players cannot help injuries though!

Given our squad size the last thing we can afford, quite literally, is to pay good money for someone and then not have them available to us to play...

My thoughts on the chances of us signing Paterson are that we will continue to pursue him but it does not look like Burnley are keen to part with him at all.

Are they playing hardball and just trying to get more for him that he is not worth or is he that good that we should be pushing as hard for him as it seems we are and should be looking to pay more, within a reasonable amount, for him?

Time will tell I guess!

Speaking of 'word on the street' it does seem like we are working on something, and I quote: 'it's all gone quiet over there. Lampitt & co are definitely up to something, again...'

Howe said as far as he is concerned Pato is not leaving them, & is not accepting any bids, this came out 3hours ago, but then its up to the board, so possible slim chance of landing him.

Good point pompeyong but there again every player has a price.

Not for me, if we pay more than £1M for him then this will be a terrible deal. Still other options available I think.

I don't know why he's rated so highly, he's not got a very good strike rate, and, as Rug said, he's got knee problems.

MATTY TUBBS..simple really, if we are going to spend cash..decent cach..then spend it on someone who knows where the net is. Lets be honest Pato is not prolific, and is injury prone. CMSmith went to BHA for ..what was £2m+.. a proven marksman..I wish we had him..Billy Sharp..even the fat scouse scummer can pop in goals left right and centre. I think SC is building a good squad

continued..a good squad, but we will neeed a marksman, and soon
