Official - Halford signed

Official - Halford signed

For a number of days now we had known that Greg Halford had signed, but were not told anything officially...

Steve Cotterill also told The News this morning that Halford would feature in our opening pre-season friendly again Havant tonight.

Yet still, nothing official...

Although late this afternoon finally The Pompey Site confirmed his return to Pompey as a permanent signing from Wolves, after his successful loan spell last season.

A 3-year contract has been signed with him coming in for an undisclosed amount - 'word on the street' has it that this was £800,000 rising to £1m plus.

It will be interesting to see where he plays this season, will he be used as a fullback - his primary position - or will Cotterill continue to play him in a central role?

To be honest, as much as he grew into the role, I am not entirely convinced that his long-term future is as a central defender as I think he gets caught 'too square on' too many times to be a central player...

Good news on balance, now we just need someone to cover for his positional lack of awareness :-)

4-0 not bad. Get a few more through the door and Lawrence and the King to come back and we might just be ok. It's nice feeling positive for once!!!!

Done Deal - Walsall compensated for Lalkovic

Milan Lalkovic has become Pompey's sixth signing of the summer. A compensation agreement with Walsall was agreed that has seen the former Chelsea winger join the Blues.

Solving that goalie quandary

I'm not sure our problem with finding a 'regular' no.1 last season was behind our failure to gain promotion from league two was it? Clearly it didn't help mind.

Pompey's attacking intent

Something Pompey (attacking intent) will look to show next season to get out of league two once and for all. Smith came in from Swindon last week but Cookie wants another striker.
