'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Evatt a better all-round option. Will he sign?

In the last few days we have seen Luke Varney and Stephen Henderson confirmed as signings and also seen the veteran Herminator, 37 today, sign a new contract.

Oh and Greg Halford will be officially unveiled today or tomorrow...

Recent 'reports' also make it seem that Aaron Mokoena is rapidly heading towards the exit gates of Fratton.

Whilst Moko is a good all-round nice guy, his footballing ability is seriously questioned all too often - especially in relation to the amount of money that he is currently paid by Pompey. This departure, for a tax free, high earning life to possibly see out his career in the UAE is moving closer.

'Links' with Ian Evatt continue to rumble on in the meantime, and he would be seen as a more than adequate replacement.

The latest 'word on the street' is that a fresh £1m plus approach has/will be made for the 29-year-old defender in an effort to tempt his club to sell him and the player to join us

Blackpool continue to insist that he is not for sale though.

Given the money they gained from being in the premier league, what they gained from a recent player sale and the parachute payments they will be in receipt of - unlike us their money has not already been earmarked as repayment for huge debts stacked up - the pressure is very much off them to sale.

This does not mean he will not move on mind...

I suspect that the angle PFC will be looking at this from will be that the modern day footballer has little appreciation of loyalty and a contract being in place counts for little, if anything. So, even if Blackpool say he is not for sale if the player wants out he invariably gets out!

So, if Evatt decides he is open to a switch to Fratton the chances are, as long as we stump up an amount remotely close to what they deem acceptable, he will.

A slightly younger, defensively better qualified and on a wage payment significantly lower than that Moko is on does indeed make Evatt the better all-round option so if we can swap one for the other it will be a good deal well done, especially considering I suspect what we get transfer wise for Moko is virtually what we would have to outlay transfer wise for Evatt...

I've read in several different places that Evatt has already signed a 2 year contract with Blackpool, which would no doubt end any attempt to buy him...

go away for a weekend, get cut off from the footballing world and you miss out on all this - had no idea a new contract had just been signed, so i guess you are right Frippy, its not gonna happen...

so much for 'word on the street' eh! i know contracts mean little but if he just signed a new one of friday he will not now be sold will he!

Do we really need another defender at the moment? Is SC planning on playing 8 across the back? HH, Rocha, Pearce, Halford, TBH, Moks, and Ward.
sneakay
To be fair Sneakay, Moks could be on his way, if we can get rid of TBH then even better, HH might not be able to play as regular as others and Ward will probably play more advanced like at the end of last season. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to get 1 more in.
