Varney in and Halford is close

Varney in and Halford is close

We are yet to hear anything official, although this will come later today according to The News, but a double signing has been made.

Steve Cotterill has been talking in The News about the 'double swoop' for Luke Varney and Stephen Henderson.

I look forward to them being officially confirmed shortly, Henderson apparently signed yesterday but still nothing is confirmed.

Awaiting this I will bang on, again, about my 'disappointment' that these official-unofficial signings are being announced in a local paper before they are the official website. This is not the way this should be...

Another coming back to PFC is Greg Halford.

'Rumours' of a return have intensified this week and Cotterill has said: 'Halford is close. That could happen this week.'

Hooray! It's all coming together nicely. If the team we have right now can stay fit, there's no reason why we wouldn't make the play-offs. All we need is a bit of back up, and perhaps another striker...

More happy news, and that surely means that we will have enough players now to actually field a team! With HH having agreed, and Halford hopefully in by the end of the week, we now have a defence. Just need another striker and another playmaker. Oooh we can start to name the first 11 against Borough soon.

All seems quietly positive.

Frippy, I'd like to share your optimism but I think we are still 2 or 3 quality players away from the play offs even if we do get Varney and Halford in. Shame about Earnshaw who has joined Cardiff today and I think would have been a 20 goal striker I think. Lets hope Cotts has another couple of additions in the pipeline!

definitely short on numbers still, encouraging start by CSI though.

Would like to see a young hungry striker as we only have Kanu, Kitson, & now Varney, with Kanu as a bit player, maybe two or is that being greedy.

Good news but I agree Rug, what's the point of having the OS if we have to find out things through the local rag or sky? It's almost as though they read the news for their reports.

well at least we're getting players in hopefully we'll get a few more then i think we could make a challenge 4 the play offs as long as we can steer clear of injuries and suspensions

i'm sorry but it being announced 1st on the OS is never gonna happen no matter how much you complain about it, its just not how football works anymore. but brilliant news getting Varney in, still think we need a proven goal scorer or 2 as blue said shame about Earnshaw and we are in desperate need on a left winger as well cause atm we'd probably be playing mullins there lol

sorry m@ but i disagree... i agree that 'media speculation' will always be there, i have no issue with that but the official website should be the place that players are officially announced as having signed! why did cotts' thoughts have to be put on the news site before the official one?
granted i do not look around at other clubs but it seems to me that the first words made by the manager and/or the player when he signs are made on the official website so why could varney not have been announced on the pompey site by cotts instead of in the news? is it worth having an official site anymore...

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.
