Nugent moves on

Nugent moves on

It will not come as a surprise to anyone really will it, but Dave Nugent's Pompey career is now officially over.

This, his PFC career being over, is something that has seemed likely so many times from virtually the minute he signed - in fact it was touch and go if it would even begin - but having come to the end of his contract officially on Friday he has now completed a free transfer move to Leicester.

To be honest with you I am not 'gutted' that he has left by any means, that said if the money had been right and he was used as an out-and-out-striker I would not have been against him staying...

I could be totally wrong here but from the outside looking in it looks very much as though money has swayed his decision making process?

Its hard to believe that any other of the 'interested clubs' could have, or would have, offered anything like what Leicester will now be paying him so I cannot help but think the money is something that Nugent has followed here?

Given the players they are being 'linked with' and have already signed, and I suspect will sign further, a feeling on déjà vu is something that I cannot help but think he will be facing down the line in his 3-year contract.

What is the saying, 'the grass is not always greener on the other side!' Perhaps this is something that he will find out?

Hey ho, that is, or could be, his worry...

Thank god for that. Embarrassed that he has been with us for so long and whats more people actually think he's good. Awful player with no class. Very happy to see the back of him.

lol brucey no class? the guy scored 14 goals last season primarily from the wing, i know its only the championship but players have been brought into the prem for far less. personally i am sad to see him go cause we will miss him next season but not sad to see his wages go and as Mick said enjoy the bench Nuge...

Said it many times, good player, not top class though, misses far too many chances and not good in pressure situations, his miss against Man City at the Fratton end a couple of years back will be my memory of him

Pompeym@ he was the 3rd most inefficient player in the league scoring less than 22% of his chances; do you really think he was worth £104,000.00 per month? Do you think it not strange that this brilliant player couldn't be given away in January, or is it odd that only the richest club in the nopower is the only one that came in for him, even then only on a free. Tractor boys wouldnt even take him in a swap. Can't and wont knock Nuggets work rate, but sadly most of it was like his shots I'll timed or mis-directed; can't think why he got the nick name nugget- I'm flummoxed I surely am! I wish him luck but it's time that episode was over- TBH next; although nobody wants to pay his salary either - apart from Potty Cotty - and I think that is posturing

To be honest I'm gutted he's gone. Yea he wasn't as profific as he could have been, but he done well to create these chances for himself, something that nobody at our club has done since Defoe and before that the Yak.

We need a decent replacement, and I want to wish Nuge the best but I have a feeling this was not the right move in a career he has only recently salvaged. Another season with us could have elevated his status, but I knew he'd go and was resigned to the fact long ago.

Yakubu is exactly the kind of player he will be trying to compete with for games! If he doesn't hit the ground running he will be in the same situation as he was at prem level pompey. He can't complain about being too far south this time either. His England hopes are over, but I hope he fulfills some of that early promise.

A west ham fan told me when harry started his first stint as boss although he would make some great signings it would be a mixed bag..and that some would be at best od, and never seen and some would be awful..Nugs in an anomally by even Harry's record. Harry Mr's ..or Nugs Misses.. should and could have put away many of his opportunities...I wish him well...Matty Tubbs please cots..or Billy Sharp, as well as a pay as you play Lomana lua lua would suffice

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
