Pompey 'close in' on double striker signings?

With pre-season just around the corner and the fact that free agents officially do become free agents this week you would 'expect' the arrivals, which are needed, to come thick and fast in the next week or so...

As said earlier today the free agents that we are 'looking' to sign should, you would think, be confirmed at the end of this week?

Its not just free transfers that it is 'said' we are looking to tie up though.

Having already paid money for Jason Pearce it is strongly 'believed' that Luke Varney will complete a £750,000 move to Pompey from Derby.

He will not be the only striker arriving, according to further reports...

Several media outlets saying that Martin Paterson is 'close' to a move to Fratton too?

24-year-old Paterson, who has been troubled with injuries by all accounts in recent times, knows where the net is at this level and would, fitness proven, make a very good signing.

Although will we, and should we even, pay what The Mirror claims we will?

They say £1.5m...

1.5m for someone who has been troubled with injurys?! next....

Patterson should be on a staged available to play payment basis.
russellm
Keep him fit and Paterson could be a decent replacement for Nugent. If we change our formation and play 2 up top, these could come a great partnership.

Gotta agree with Tommo. If we are going to have a small squad again we cannoy afford players who are injury prone.

I'm gonna trust the club that all injuries have been assessed and all necessary medicals will focus on past problems.. . I'm also gonna trust the club to get the best deal possible for any players we may sign.. I'm even gonna trust the club to manage the wage budget appropriately .. Basically I'm gonna trust the club !.. Suggest we all start thinking a lot more positvely .. The past is past ..We are in a brave new world .. let's not forget .. but let's move on

I agree 100% with you Chix. I'm after you!

If the two signings are true, then its obvious Cotteril does not like the free agent strikers that are availible on are budget.

i completely agree with u chix we've gotta start trusting the club. when fit paterson is a good player and both have experience at championship level. lets get behind the club and help move forward

Would still have taken Earnshaw from Forest but it must be his wages that are a problem.

Just realised above was my first post on this website in a long long time! Im all for trusting the club just not sure if Patterson is worth 1.5m, come to think of it when did we get 1.5m to spend LOL
tommo3146
well, i remember watching Patterson play for Burnley albeit on TV, and thought he was a good player and seem to recall him cracking in couple of good goals, much the same could be said of "Reg" Varney at Blackpool last season, i remember him as the bright young kidd that everyone had hopes for then his career disapating until Holloway nabbed him and his name was on TV again
plymouth graham
According to the lastest word Patterson is staying at Burnley now

Thats what I like about yer Pompey supporter - you are all so trusting. I am not a half glass empty kind of person, but I will never never never trust anything or anybody connected with football again, let alone Pompey. I have bought my season ticket (amongst the first to do so), I will attend all the matches and enjoy all the transfer rumours etc, I will cheer and jump up and down for my team and will travel from one end of the country to the other to support them, but I will never ever forget that whilst I'm here for the fun, the camaraderie and my club, the players, the Manager and the owners are here for their careers and the dosh. Am aiming to keep a bit of proportion about the whole scenario from now onwards - that way I won't be knocked sideways if it all starts going pearshaped again. If that sounds negative, then I'm sorry - to me, its just common sense.
