Closing in on Varney/Pearce wants in?
Another day and further 'rumours' greet us!
Today both The News and sky sports 'understand' that we are 'closing in on a deal to secure Derby striker Luke Varney'.
A loan move to Blackpool last season 'revitalised' his career apparently and that has seen him become 'sought after' but we are the ones that will sign him?
In many ways we are not in a position to be too choosy but I would not say that the prospect of signing Varney, and potentially doing so with us paying money for the 28-year-old, fills me with much joy as that highly rated Crewe striker, he once was, seems a long time ago now...
Spells with Charlton and Derby, including various loan spells along the way, have done little to convince me otherwise, but hey ho beggars cannot be choosers eh!
As for another 'transfer link' it has now become common knowledge that an approach for Jason Pearce was rejected by Bournemouth although returning with a fresh bid is on?
A return to Fratton is also something that his agent has said Pearce would like.
One day, and hopefully soon, some of these 'rumours' will prove true and the signings will soon start to arrive...
Will Varney and/or Pearce be among them though?

Wouldnt really like to have to pay for Varneys services, I would say there are better options, cheaper options, or use the money for wages for a decent player.
Anyone through the door would be a welcome sight though to be honest.

agreee Jase, tbh i would not want to pay for varney - certainly not £750,000 but beggars cannot be choosers. not convinced we will pay that much for him, if we even sign him tho?

If PFC works things right, we will get cheaper and better players... not someone like Varney. Seems to be another Nugent to me. I wonder if PFC have / had any scouts looking away from the Uk. There must be dozens of potentially good players who are willing to come to the championship as a stepping stone for something bigger. Just today, Sunderland signed an unknown player from Korea. Aren't any others similar cheap players? Perhaps. Let's go and find them then!
