One way to deal with a sell-on clause?

Pompey seemed, for once, as though we would be on the right end of a sell-on fee clause - something that had hamstrung us so many times over the years when we were on the wrong end!

This benefit was 'due' to come from 50% of whatever Jason Pearce left Bournemouth for.

Although this 50% sell-on fee saw a move to Peterborough fall through a couple of weeks back.

The likes of Burnley and Reading have also been 'linked' with Pearce, so we are not talking mugs in terms of sides showing an interest in him.

One solution to the problem that a few here on Vital Pompey had was why not re-sign him, and bring him back to Fratton?

Well, it would appear that this is something that we may well do...

The News is today reporting that a return to PFC 'could' be on. We would pay less than other clubs would have to as a compromise I assume?

I for one would not be opposed to this idea, as the defenders stock has raised since he left the club. At the time I was disappointed to see this anyway as I thought he had a decent future ahead of him, which is appears he is starting to grow into now thanks to his time with The Cherries.

What do you reckon guys, would you like to see Pearce back at Fratton?

Every player helps at the moment, and he seems to have come on leaps and bounds whilst at Bournemouth so why not.

I jokingly suggested this in the forums when the issue first arose the other week, but I'd assume the same clause would apply. Whatever we pay for him, 50% of it will come straight back to us, so pretty much a half-price deal.

Rug, why would Bournemouth accept less money from Pompey? They have a value say it was 10 plus now there is a 50% sell on clause say 5; that won't affect Bournemouth's base value on the player. Pompey won't get it for less than the vase value, if the player improves Bournemouth's base return will improve. As for the news well Vierra "could join" as " could" Ronaldo ; all equals the silly season includes Pompey again- not a bad thing imho

would they not ask pompey for 50% more though thus not losing out on money

if they wanted say 250k then we'd still pay that 250k but other clubs would actually have to pay them 500k i think thats what Rugs saying. As for Pearce i'd love to have him back, looked brilliant for Bournemouth and we could do with a few more defenders

it would b nice 2 have him back cos as we need players and getting in good young players is always a good thing and playing at a higher level would help him as well as us

Steve Clarridge was also released only to signed again at the end of his career, in this case we could still have the best of him. and 250k is good deal by any standard

think pearce is good enough to be in the starting 11, and would not be viewed as a 'back-up' as such - will not happen anyway by all accounts...
i get what some were saying, bournemouth 'possibly' would have wanted us to pay more due to the 50% sell-on we would get but my thinking of paying less was that we 'might' pay more than others were offering but would actually pay less as we got 50% back. some compromise needs to be found where they 'might' get a % of any further sell-on for this to workout...

we should definately have a punt and put in a bid 4 him

pompey should put an offer of 700k for pearce with a 200k cashback incentive back to pompey, instead of 50% that way bournemouth get 500k - the money they thought there were going to get from peterborough until they discovered the 50% sell on, and pompey acquire a player for 500k net compared to 1 million it would have cost to get shackell

Why don't we just let someone else buy him and buy halford instead ! If we are bidding for Pearce then we must of put a bid in for halford !

21 Jun 2011 18:38:32 Bristol City will sign Jason Pearce from Bournemouth for 450 000 plus Lee Johnson. Joe Edwards and Marlon Jackson will sign on loan as part of the deal. This unusual deal is an attempt by the Bristol City and Bournemouth board to get a fair deal for the league one club without having to pay the majority of the bid to Bristol Citys championship rivals Portsmouth, who had a huge sell on clause inserted into the contract when Pearce left Fratton park.

I would agree with hussler, as promising as the kid sounds, I'd prefer the consistency and reliability we know we would get with Halford.
