I still do not see the need...

I still do not see the need...

'Rumour' and 'speculation' that Birmingham are 'keen' on Steve Cotterill has seen his contract situation at Pompey raise its head again.

The News today runs an article calling for CSI to show that 'Cotterill is wanted' and as such they should give him a new contract...

As I have said before with 2-years left on his existing contract why is there a need to do this just yet?

I do not see it as unreasonable at all that Cotterill proves himself to the new owners, and if he does that in the early months of the coming season - assuming he does stay? - then a new contract can be discussed.

Sounds simple enough, right?

Proving he is wanted does not, for me, mean he needs to be given a new contract - he has one!

It is pretty plain and simple really, again for me, he has a contract so this is either honoured as it is or he decides to take up an offer elsewhere. If he is content where he is then would he need the immediate offering of a new contract?

I would say no...

Or am I am being a tad harsh or unfair?

Totally agree Rug, 2 years with new owners is fine, I dont think there should be a problem. I would rather they showed some faith in him by communicating with him and helping him get in some players. There is still time obviously but it is running out, we have seen what bad pre-season preparations can do to a team.

I would think that with his family settled just down the road, he wont be going anywhere in a hurry, the more speculation over him will just strengthen his position when it comes to looking at a new contract next year, he has now had talks with the new owners so we should see a little bit of action within the next day or so!!!

Not a very good manager imo. Should have been more consistent with the first team we had last season. Disciplinary was awful. He obviously couldn't sort that out. Regardless off this he still shouldn't have a contract extension as there is no point. Also.. Please please please can we change the picture used for cotterill posts as the current one really irritates me! Thanks

Agree Rug, 2 years is long as the new owners let him build his squad, then he "could" be rewarded if he does well with what he's given in the coming season.....and not before!!

Agree 100% Rug. Assuming he's given a decent squad, let him prove his worth. And I agree with brucey - please change the picture, it does him no credit.

re: the image, sorry guys - problem is we cannot have images left, right and centre. only so many can be used and only those that will be copyright free. its not as simple as selecting an image and using. only so many can be done at anytime soon and we only have 3 on file at the moment, cannot see the need for more tbh... this one seemed more appropriate that one of him with his hand to his face in a sort of 'why do i bother' pose or one of him giving a thumbs up.
i do get the point tho and will look into getting 1 more for next season :-)

I like the picture lol... And don't see how anyone can slate him after what he dine last year... This year is the year to judge in my opinion

Jury us still out, too inconsistent and not capable of accepting his own errors. Give him a chance to prove himself not a two year extn.

Picture sums up his worzelness from what I can see; get another like it Rog, ideally with him doing his gurning!
