CSI complete Pompey takeover!!

It is finally done, after weeks and months or talk, rumour, speculation and negotiations its just been announced that CSI have completed their takeover of Pompey.

The following statement was issued on The Pompey Site a little while ago...

Portsmouth Football Club Statement

Convers Sports Initiatives have completed the purchase of Portsmouth Football Club from Sports Holdings (Asia) Ltd.

It follows several months of negotiations with CSI owners Vladimir Antonov, Roman Dubov and Chris Akers, who have all passed The Football League's fit and proper persons test.

Pompey chief executive David Lampitt said: "I am pleased to welcome the club's new owners and very much look forward to working with them.

"It has been a complex process, which has been conducted very professionally throughout. I'm very pleased that it is now complete and we can start to put plans in place for the future.

"The rebuilding of the club is a long term-project and, in CSI, I believe we have found owners who will take the long-term view that is required.

"We are pleased to be looking ahead but may I also take this opportunity to thank Balu Chainrai, Levi Kushnir and Deepak Chainrai for their contribution in seeing the club through a very difficult period in its recent history."

Antonov, a Russian banker and investor, founded London-based CSI with Dubov and Akers, a former chief executive at Leeds United.

Among CSI's other sports properties are the Spyker Squadron motorsport team and North One Sport, a global promoter of major sporting events.

So FINALLY this is done!

I think it would be na´ve to go into this getting too carried away but I think a fair level of optimism and pessimism is something we should show.

Above all we need to give the CSI guys a chance.

They said, in a statement also issued on The Pompey Site, the following...

Convers Sports Initiatives Statement

Convers Sports Initiatives plc, controlled by London-based Russian businessman Vladimir Antonov, has today completed the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Portsmouth Football Club following approval by The Football League.

London-based businessmen Vladimir Antonov and Roman Dubov, Chairman and President respectively of Convers Sports Initiatives (CSI), together with their partner Chris Akers, the former CEO of Leeds United and Sports Internet Group, have bought the Fratton Park club for an undisclosed sum from Hong Kong businessman Balu Chainrai, his brother Deepak and Levi Kushnir.

Mr Antonov, 35, Mr Dubov, 36, and Mr Akers, 46, manage the commercial development of a growing portfolio of sports teams, franchises and rights through CSI, including: the Russian Ferrari race team, the Spyker Squadron motorsports team and North One Sport, the global promoters of the World Rally Championship (WRC), the Isle of Man TT race series, the Velux 5 Oceans Race and Clipper Round the World sailing events.

In November 2010, CSI acquired a controlling interest in PowerPlay Golf the exciting new golf format which is now played in over 25 countries. In February 2011 CSI acquired North One Sport and in the same month purchased a majority stake in DBG Convers, a specialist in developing social new media solutions for sports and entertainment brands and personalities including world heavyweight boxer David Haye. In March 2011 CSI secured a 65% share of Executive Sport Limited, the parent company of the high profile "Leaders in Football" conference. In May 2011 CSI purchased a majority stake in Sports International Ltd, the holding company of popular online platform SPORTPOST.com.

Commenting on the Portsmouth FC acquisition Mr Antonov said: "We have conducted extensive due diligence and held detailed negotiations with a number of clubs in the English Premier League, Championship, League One and Scottish Premier League over the past twelve months. We ultimately selected Portsmouth Football Club because of its history, loyal fan base and its potential to return to the Premier League.

"The supporters are amongst the most passionate in the game and that gives the business a strong foundation to build on.

"We look forward to working with all those connected with Portsmouth Football Club including the management, players, employees, and sponsors as well as developing close ties with the City of Portsmouth and the community.

"We would also like to thank Mr Chainrai and his executive management team for their stewardship of Portsmouth Football Club through one of the most difficult times in its history, pre and post-Administration last year.'

Lets hope for a few signings in the next few weeks, some for small fees, frees and loans. We need a squad!!! As you say Rug give these guys a chance and lets see what happens. I just really hope the deal includes buying the land around Fratton otherwise there is no room for growth if we can't improve our facilities. Gradually increasing the capacity is the way to go as not to be stuck with a 30-40 thousand seater stadium we can't fill. Im optimistic about these guys so lets give them our full support and hope for steady growth and just be incredibly thankfull our great club still lives on! PUP PPU!

I have been checking in every couple of hours for days now. This is my first check in of the day and I must say the news leaves me feeling flat. However, I really do feel that we owe Chanrai and his friends a debt of gratitude for doing their part in keeping this club safe for the past year. I know they had money invested, but even so, the club has emerged unscathed and lives to see another day - with the Russians.......
Gandor1
PS: I s'pose we'll be called Pomski now...... doh!
Gandor1
Just to clarify ones Russian, ones Hungarian and ones British, not to split hairs or anything, lol.

At last it's done. Welcome Convers and let's hope you move us forward steadily and without leading us into previous troubles. Today has started well, although my wife has said I cannot name our new baby Roman or Vladimir if he decides to make an appearance today!!!
Alty Blue
Congratulations Alty Blue, although I'd go with your wife on that one! Be sure to avoid Harry, Peter and Sacha as well!

FINALLY! Right, hopefully now we might be able to get back to a bit of football banter for the next few seasons. Slow and steady wins the race, but I hope to see the owners statements made with either SC's players coming in early next week, or SC replaced qucikly and a new manager ready to roll.
sneakay
yea Sneaks thats whats needed, there where also those rumours about the entire back room from top to bottom being replaced, which could be interesting. Either way good news but struggling to get excited atm, suppose it doesn't really hit until something starts changing lol.

Great news. Big thanks to Chainrai and co., without whom the club would have been long dead. I knew CSI had bought 15 largish holdigs in different ventures since the turn of the year... and it is interesting to see them go to pains to point this out and it is part of the reason why the deal took so long. I think it can be a good model with the owners largely allowing Lampitt and the executives to run the club whilst they themselves provide commercial support, governance and long term funding. PUP
Liquor&Poker
Thank you Mr Chan, kept the club afloat, best of luck now with the new owners we should move onwards & upwards.
russellm
Thank Christ for that .. now give 'em space and let them get to work .. They will know what's requuired and we no doubt make the purchasing of a squad to compete next year a prioroity ... after all why would anybody buy a club with 8 players and not allow the manager to go out and get a few (12) more ..
Chix
Relief all around, and we only had to suffer through a dozen false dawns to get here. Now why have we not signed any world class players yet and where is our new stadium?
pompeyfrippy
Thank God for that!!...Now can everyone get off their case and lets get on with having a club to support...I can finally look forward and stop being so peed off with the whole bloody mess of the last 2yrs!!
pentonpompey
Steady Penton, we haven't got a first eleven, let alone a squad, yet lol
PFCblue
So the rumor was true this time, now we have to be patient to see how the rebuilding pans out.
pompeyyong
a cautious approach is the way, well the best way, to go i think - lets give CSI a chance but they also need to be watched of course by the masses. whilst the trust does alot of good, tbf, i do think they need to be mindful not to 'meddle' too much with things or the lot of us could suffer...
pompeyrug
Do you know what's happened re the Gaydamak element, Rug?
PFCblue
not a clue blue, was told the other day - but this was not something that could be 'confirmed' - that CSI were trying to meet with gaydarlek, or his representatives, about that land...
pompeyrug
With luck they will gain that as well which could be a big step forward for you. Glad it is done and dusted and now we might just be able to startlooking forward to this season and all that this will mean to us on the South Coast.
