Pre-season: Havant v Pompey

Pre-season plans, much like everything else at the club, are still 'taking shape', or at least this is what PFC, or should I say Steve Cotterill - who makes it sound like he is on a one man mission to sort this out - are looking at...

The planned American tour is slightly in 'doubt' by the sounds of it although Cotterill has told The News today that Austria, Holland and Germany are 'alternative' options with a base in England also 'possible' but America is still his preferred destination.

A trip to Bournemouth now looks off, although the traditional fixture against Havant is on. This has been confirmed, with the following announced on The Pompey Site...

Blues Arrange Hawks Friendly

Pompey will take on Havant & Waterlooville in a pre-season friendly at Westleigh Park on Monday, July 11.

The clash with the Blue Square Bet South side will kick-off at 7.30pm.

It is the second match of the Blues' summer programme to be announced - a glamour friendly against Premier League runners-up Chelsea will be played at Fratton Park five days later.

Pompey faced the Hawks in their opening pre-season fixture of last season with David Nugent and Michael Brown scoring in a 2-1 win.

And a young Blues side also won a friendly last November. Joel Ward scored the only goal of the game as Hermann Hreidarsson made his comeback from an Achilles injury.

Ticket information will be provided at a later date.

I'd prefer the Cherries fixture to go ahead, I don't see what benefit the Hawks game brings apart from the desperate Pompey struggle to avoid humiliation.

Russell I think the point of the Havant friendly is goodwill towards the non-league side who bring in more gate money for that friendly than they could ever dream of for a Blue Square South match. Probably as much as the rest of the season altogether, or close to it. And they have lost out on the reserve games now, so its probably the least Pompey can do. I enjoy it, its down the road from me and Havant are my second team - like many other Pompey fans as well.

I agree Tracy Pompey nearly always do this fixture, & many other local small clubs away in the past, with one bigger side at home, hence Chelsea this year.

think tracy makes plenty of good, and valid, points tbh.
