Fernandes To Fly In Tomorrow

Fernandes To Fly In Tomorrow

Manuel Fernandes will fly into Portsmouth tomorrow to complete an 8 million pound move to the club. This will double Portsmouth`s record transfer fee of 4 million for Benjani.

Fernandes has come through Benfica`s youth system and has been called by many as the new "Makelele." (Expect it to go through on Friday)

The signing of Fernandes could signal the loan selling of Richard Hughes, with Southampton sniffing about.

ive got to say im feeling quite excited about this guy, has shown lots of potential and if jose mourinho thinks hes good enough for us then ill take him anyday. is 8mil worth it though? ... im not so sure, but were trying to be a big fish and smashing the transfer record of the club in an exponential way will really tell surrounding teams in the prem that we really do mean business now. let the big guns come out!

FINGERS CROSSED whatever the fee we've finally got our man! It will DEFINATELY send out a message to the rest of the Prem. It'll also be a big two fingers up to those who ever doubted Pompey (both players and so called "pundits" or "experts") and our ability to ever stay in, let alone attempted to try and actually compete in the biggest league in the World. PLAY UP POMPEY!!!

So where will he play in the midfield - who's place is at stake?

Woot! Starting to feel that optimism flooding back....this lad does sound like a very good signing. Just hope he can hack it in the Prem as they've risked a lotta money on him.

That's always a worry isn't it, but you've gotta be in it to win it... This signing (all being well) will really open the flood gates, although I'd still not be surprised to see us signing, or trying to sign players right up to the last minutes of the transfer window

For me, this is our most exciting signing in a long time, and will definitely be our most impressive piece of business this summer. I think back to Vieira signing for Arsenal for £4.5m, which was a lot of money then. Noone really knew much about him, other than seeing a couple of games on Channel 4 for Milan. But what a bit of business from Wenger. Now, anyone who has seen Fernandes on Eurosport or watched the youtube videos (seriously, go have a look - www.youtube.com, search for Manuel Fernandes) will be as excited as me. Of course he's not the finished article, but this boy looks incredible. Box to box, hard in the tackle, a belter of a shot, cracking passer, and just up for it! If I was asked to make a statement about him, I predict he will make a bigger impact than the 20 year old Vieira that signed for Arsenal next season. I'm VERY excited.
