Should we applaud our South Coast rivals?

Should we applaud our South Coast rivals?

This topic, to applaud Scum or not on their promotion back to the championship, was just one of the topics that arose during the last 'Chew The Fat With Chix - here' session in the forum last Thursday.

Opinions were shared, with these opinions varying somewhat...

PFCblue offered this one: 'I applaud Sotons rise from the ashes. They had some diabolical times and points deductions.

'It goes to show what a decent manager can do.'

Just to throw in my own two cents, for me a club that has invested the money that they have with the talented array of young talent also splashed in should have achieved promotion so they achieved what they would have been expected to.

That said, rival from down the road or not, you have to take your hat (begrudgingly) off to them, surely as you would any side that gains promotion, right?

Brighton on the other hand, again for me, deserve more credit as things have been much tougher for them and they walked away with the league one title!

Other topics of debate were the player of the season, not much was said on this issue, and the old favourite that has been an ongoing debate for years a new stadium for Pompey, could/should we get one?

The latter issue saw the follow response from Pompeytim: 'anyway, its all a pipedream right now, can't see any investment on that front for a good few years. Shame really.

'I remember saying to my old man, "before all of this ends [the Premiership days] and the owner sods off, I just hope they get that new ground and training ground built." Never happened, and that was a real crime.

'My old man used to joke that the guy who knocked out the artists impressions of new grounds was one of the best paid blokes in Pompey!'

Who 'might' be the top team on the south coast was also debated briefly...

Chixy will again run his segment in the forum this Thursday at 7.30pm, so join in if you can, but in the meantime catch-up with his thread - here.

Should we applaud our South Coast rivals?.. Yeah for sure.. Brighton and Bournemouth have had excellent seasons and I look forward to 'welcoming' them both to Fratton next season.

Scum fans (and I work with plenty sadly) say that we bought the FA Cup back in 2008, well they bought promotion by spending far more than any other club in Division Three!! Gotta agree with Matt as usual!

We don't have that kind of relationship with the scummers where we pat each other on the back while exchanging some witty banter! Would they applaud us? Not on your friggin nelly! Anyone forgotten all the poisonous comments in our direction when we nearly went bust? I'm gutted they've come up. Good luck to Bournemouth and Brighton though!

Vital View - League 2, 18th February 2017

Doncaster's winless run went on but they remain three points ahead of Plymouth. Carlisle are a further two points back. Leyton Orient and Newport hold the unwanted relegation places.

Video - Barnet 1-1 Pompey

A late Barnet goal looked as though it would end Pompey's unbeaten run but Conor Chaplin proved the saviour when he scored a last minute equaliser to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
