'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Flahavan another released

Danny Webber has gone, a quartet of youngsters have also been released - with others 'likely' to follow as new deals 'probably' will not be agreed - but another confirmed as having been released is Darryl Flahavan.

To be honest this surprises me somewhat as I cannot see that he would not have agreed to stay, so this now leaves us very light as far as keepers go...

Steve Cotterill must have something lined up, and from the sounds of what he told The News, he does for him to have taken this decision.

He also wants someone that he thinks will challenge Jamie Ashdown more: 'Darryl was on a contract until the end of the season and he is now going.

'I just wish him all the best and, hopefully, he will find somewhere.

'Instead, I'm looking at someone I just feel will put a bit more competition on to Jamie. I want somebody who has played at a good level and have a couple of ideas. One would be a free transfer I think we could get. It's very important to have competition all around the pitch.'

This is a big summer for Cotterill and gives him the chance to stamp his authority on the squad, his dealings will make or break him as a Pompey manager...

Someone that will be arriving, not to challenge next season I would doubt, is a youth keeper: 'we've got a couple of young ones at that level, but we will be signing another goalkeeper for the youth team.

'We are just getting that through at the moment.'

Some thought to the future is a welcome thing.

Could be a good ploy, forcing BC (or whoever) to enter the market in order to have a team for next season (being the cynic I am). Seriously tho, I know SC makes recommendations but who ultimately decides who to offer contracts to?

PFC Blue, if you watched the Alan Sugar documentary on the been the other day, according to Twitchy he believes that hardly any managers know what their players salaries are. So i guess any contracts are up to Lampitt an co.

I guess it does not look good for HH or DN. So far 5 out of 5 have been told to go
