Pack joins the youth exodus

Another youngster who has no future with Pompey is Marlon Pack.

He has been told, which again like with others whilst with a little disappointment from my thinking is not at all surprising; he has no future at the club.

Steve Cotterill has, and again I do not like the way this has come about - The Pompey Site should, for me, be the area for such announcements, told The News today that the 19-year-old has no future at Fratton.

Pack, like the others that has left, was not going to get a look-in so it was felt it was best for him to move on and with a contract offer on the table from Cheltenham, where he will play regularly, he needs to take it.

To be honest I have not seen enough of Pack, and I guess to be fair most of the other youngsters cast aside, but he seemed a decent enough prospect from what I did see so perhaps another year or two on a contract with us, with him going out on loan again next season, 'might' not have hurt but the decision has been made and I wish him well.

At least he can say that he pulled on the blue shirt and scored a belter of a penalty in the league cup game against Palace earlier in the season when we won the shootout!

To leave a club, your local club, after more than a decade with them cannot be easy though.

Cotterill is the manager, he makes these calls, lets just hope that they do not come back to haunt us in the future...

Sad but possibly required if we are to attain PL status in the near future + SC has cut his core squad again for next season

thought he looked v decent, in fact i thought he looked the better one (at the start) of him and ward. look how ward has come on with a bit of game time. he was definately better than dicksonko combo, and alot cheaper i would guess. wasted talent, as i bet hes playing championship standard soon enough

Cotterill must know something we dont. I think we have a squad of about 7 for next season. Whilst I accept Kilbey and Pack were not PL players they would have been good championship squad players.

disappointed that cotterill has let another, who i thought was good enough to be a 'squad player' at least, go - but he knows best i guess...
its a risky game we are playing, letting players we already own move on with the number that will leave anyway - especially if they 'seemed' to have something about them, which i thought kilbey and pack did!

Does SC just want rid of every player who was here under a different manager, and build his own team from Stoke rejects. Really can't understand it. With the youth players we surely had a bunch of low paid players keen to do the best they can in order to make the first team.

I suspect that part of the problem is that they weren't particularly low paid. There's been a lot of rumours about the kind of money some of the youngsters were on, hangover from the premier league "Lets chuck money around" seasons.
