'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hardly surprising but good luck Tom

Tom Kilbey 'might not' cut it as a footballer in the higher reaches of the footballing pyramid although I must say that I am disappointed that he has become the latest in a long line of youngsters that have not even been given a chance...

Disappointed, yep although not in the least bit surprised!

The writing has been on the wall for Tom for months, the decision to loan him out to Lincoln last week was just about the final nail in his Pompey coffin, with the final nail coming on Wednesday when Steve Cotterill announced that his time with the club was ending.

To be honest I also found that disappointing, we could have at least waited until the end of the season to announce this, and also have done this through more official channels to instead of making such statements in a local paper.

Why did we bother negotiating with Millwall around Christmas over the 'fee' we would have had to pay them just to then barely give him any involvement?

As said he might not have cut it but a young player, who must surely have been on a small amount of money - even given the cash PFC have loved to splash around in recent years - was worth keeping around for another year or so, even if this included a half a season, or a full one, out on loan next season to aid the development...

I know that Cotterill sees these players in training, and just from looking at Kilbey you see he needs to develop more, but he seems to make judgements about players pretty quickly - dare I, if I am in a position to question, say he does this too quickly?!

Hey ho, I wish him well and hope that he - like the others youngsters we have shown the door - can go on to have a decent career, although part of me of course hopes that it is not 'too good' as I hate looking back on what we might have had!

This makes, or at least will make, it just about every youngster at PFC when Cotterill took over moved on now I reckon?

Whilst he was that little bit older I still reckon that had it not been for the fact that we almost literally had no other option Joel Ward 'probably' would have gone the same way too...

Thankfully he did not, and he is in fact very much in the running to be our player of the season I would think!

And now Marlon Pack too. It seems though that Cheltenham will want to sign him permanently after this seasons loan. Good luck to the both of them.

I'm not sure if our much vaunted youth development manager ( dripping sarcasim) is having a clear out for financial reasons to subsidise Cots next season or the players aren't any good.
