'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kilbey's Pompey career ends?

To be honest I do not think that the title, 'Kilbey's Pompey career ends', is an overstatement as I would be amazed if we saw Tom Kilbey's stay at Fratton extend beyond the end of his contract, which is up in the summer.

With the midfielder today leaving to join Lincoln on loan until the end of the season I cannot see there being a way back for the youngster...

You can argue that the loan will 'benefit everyone', and actually going out and playing regular 1st team football will do that, the problem is you have to be in the managers long-term future plans and I cannot see him being in Steve Cotterill's to be honest.

Ok, Kilbey has been among the subs on most occasions since making his debut on new years day, although he has never looked as though he is doing anything other than making up the numbers, in fact he has not had a sniff since we lost 2-1 to Forest back in mid January.

Following this defeat Cotterill was very critical, overly for me, of the youngster and 'word on the street' has it from this moment onwards is become 'pretty clear' that his future lay elsewhere...

Quite clearly the guy has a lot of physical development to do but I cannot help but think that there is a little something about him ability wise so he is another that I will be sad to see go in the summer.

Of course until his contract ends he remains a Pompey player so you can 'never say never' but something tells me he had long since become the latest youngster to move on...

Shame but, as you and I know, perhaps no surprise.

Ciftci to move on too, so only Ward left, & their may well be clubs, eyeing him too, all that time & money put in the youth system gone to waist.

I'm wondering if a rebuilding of our team from the bottom with a team crammed with young players is no more than a pipe dream, unless we want to drop another couple of leagues. Haven't got much time for SC but can we really afford a youth policy...as much as I'd like one. If we are to remain in the Championship I'm afraid it's more of the same, loanees and journeymen.
