Shooting themselves in the foot?

Shooting themselves in the foot?

So, the season ticket prices are out - we know the score and what we can and cannot do.

I have got to say, despite understanding the increase in ticket prices - that is fine(ish), I am bitterly disappointed that we, existing season ticket holders, only had a 2-week window to sort out our season ticket renewals to save £50.

As far as I go - and perhaps in a selfish way - I, like many others, do not like the thought of doing this by post and doing in person is NOT possible. Without another home game until next month I am amazed that people, and A LOT of us are in the same boat, that live off the island have not been taken into account!

Again, speaking for myself but I would also think many others, I can hardly nip down and do this in person as I live in Devon...

I assume that you can get someone else to do it for you, but being able to find £450 at the drop of a hat in less than 2-weeks is hardly easy is it, especially given the fact that credit cards cannot be used!

I might go as far as say I am devastated as I am not convinced that I will now renew my season ticket - and dare say plenty of others will feel the same - as that extra £50 I will 'probably' have to pay now, as a result, by not doing an early bird probably puts me off as it becomes too expensive given my circumstances.

A game-by-game basis, and not what I wanted to do at all and 'if' this becomes the case 'probably' not all homes games, looks like the route I 'might' be faced with taking now?

After all the good work that Portsmouth Football Club have done recently, and I genuinely think that we have even if some do not, I think this is a real kick in the nuts for so many of us...

They talk about having credit/debit card payment 'hopefully' available for payment after the early bird window, so WHY have we not just extended this early bird window to compensate for this?

Offering us a mere 2-week window for early birds, is a little harsh right?

£50 more, after this early bird window, might not sound a lot but 'principle' is something that comes into account, reward for being loyal and retaining this season ticket over the years is something you would 'hope' for, but 2-weeks is not really showing much loyalty.

In fact I am LIVID at the lack of loyalty being shown to the fans here and really do think the club will pay a price for this, as the title says I genuinely think the PFC are 'shooting themselves in the foot.'

There is also the fact that as much as £50 might not seem like a lot, I have to say given circumstances of so many people that 'extra' £50 is a lot!

I wonder how many, like myself that would not really have thought twice about renewing their season ticket come what may, even at short notice (but for the finance options available) 'might' be thinking the same as me now and having to give some serious thought to actually renewing - even if this is something that they desperately want to do...

Is no debit card payment available for early birds? I agree... only 2 weeks and lack of viable options for the early bird is not really very helpful. I expect this will mean fewer people renew. Perhaps the club didn't have much choice in these matters, but it has been handled badly. Regarding the increase in price, I don't see a big problem with this because everybody is getting angry at certain percentage increases. It should be the total cost NOW of the ticket that is considered, not whether it has risen by X percent. For example if prices for a ticket last season were £100 and this has now risen by 12.5% to £112.5 it is still cheap. I don't know how the price compares to other clubs but that would be a better yardstick of value, not an amount of increase. I agree that the way it has come out, it seems that the club has rushed this through, possibly their hands are tied due to deadlines to confirm future revenues and so on. I also think people are getting angry (not Rug but on other sites) just coz it's costing a few extra quid compared to a fairly cheap price last term. I predict a lot of people who didn't have tickets or weren't planning to renew will just act like sheep as usual and now not buy a ticket anyway and blame it on the club.

I do think that the short time scale on this has to be something to do with Zebra Finance. I notice on their website that they do now seem to have quite a stranglehold/monopoly on ticket purchase with a large number of clubs. Quite a lucrative little number if you control ticket purchase for all league clubs and can dictate time scales of money collection. Someone is getting a backhander for this, you can bet your football boots on it....

There is more to this than just the price! £5 Admin charge to use a Debit Card !!!! WHY £10 Admin charge to use a Credit Card!!!! WHY......and then on Matchdays, just to ensure that they put off the casual supporter, they are faced with a £2 admin charge regardless !!!! I have already emailed the club and told them I will not be renewing under these circumstances and they should get their collective **** together. We as a fan base, don't even know what amount of players will be here next year, and let's not even think about what the quality will be like......I would suggest we would struggle to get as strong a starting 11, but our squad depth is ridiculously low.....yet they want us to stump up blindly, after offering no mutterings, rumours, let alone guarantees that we would have a half-decent team to follow FFS ! Now, I have normally done the early bird scheme for the last few years, but giving us less than 2 weeks for a cash-only (sounds dodgy straight away) scheme, and a lot of season ticket holders don't even know, because no letters have gone out - is just RIDICULOUS and INSULTING to its most loyal supporters! I would just about agree to coughing up the £450 as an early bird - but not within the time-frame, and no way a cash only scheme - and the 2 week timing is too tight for me, and many others.......sort it out Pompey, or is this a genuine ploy from up high to railroad us out of business !!! Perhaps we'll get to watch Prem League footy for £450 ;)) But seriously as a loyal supporter I'm only gonna stump my cash up if the club promises to sign Ronaldo and Kaka. I know the £5 and £10 booking fees are a bit high.. but have a look on the web.. airlies, concert tickets... whatever.. they all charge about £3-£5 for debit cards. Usually the vendor has to pay charges on credit cards so, it is not unreasonable. The £2 matchday admin fee though.. seriously WTF. Don't they want people to turn up??

Will it change if we all complain I doubt it. Ask our board in particular BC
    21/03/2011 16:11:00
Sorry I pressed return. Ask BC if this is going in the Uslaka / Ritchie pot?
