Sol Talks Tomorrow!

EXCLUSIVE: Harry will tomorrow speak to Sol Campbell about a possible move to Fratton.
Harry is hoping to use Tony Adams and Portsmouth`s ambition to persuade Sol to take a 30k wage cut to join the club.

Harry said: 'I know Sol - he's a great lad. And I like him as a player.

'He was absolutely outstanding in the Champions League final.

'I've got to tell him where we are looking to go and the exciting times we have planned here over the next few years.

'Until we get a couple of big names in, it will always be hard convincing other big players to come here.

'But that won't stop me trying. The potential of this club is fantastic. It's a great place for a player to come - and I will tell him that.'

Campbell may be many things but he is not stupid. He would never sign for portsmouth with such a cut in wages. Sol would have to be pretty stupid to quit arsenal just to sign for a club less than 2 hours away in the car for 30k less per week, sure he may be first choice at portsmouth but at his age & with the injuries he suffers he cannot play a whole season anyway which he knows himself. Either portsmouth are upping his wages to sign him or the whole thing is just rubbish. Wenger has said he is going abroad & it will probably be to america which is where sol has always said he wants to finish his football career.

Les, what really. Why was he at Bluewater and not FP. Although would be a steady signing, doubt this will happen.

Why do you feel that Mr Disappointment is waiting round the corner to say no cigar Pompey.

It could be a case of Campbells Cash and Carry. Let's face it though the only big names we are going to attract will be over the hill has beens. I know some of my Pompey colleagues will critise me for comments like that , and I know the Board and Harry will do all they can....we simply are not a big enough club with a big enough ground. Therefore we are less likely to be ambitious at the moment. That said it might change, if and when we do something about that shabby place called Fratton Park, with the Ryman League bogs.

Keep the faith, I have no doubt that we'll get some big name announcements soon enough...knowing Arry he's got fingers in several pies at the moment - well, pies that Mbesuma didn't spot first anyway!

Where we are going and exciting times for the next few seasons, give me a break, Sol probably has two seasons of competitive football left in him, forget his age, the body is already showing the wear and tear. So to play for Pompey he is going to drop 3m in wages over two seasons. Dont wait for Mr. Disappointment, the old fat bugger has already finished his song.

Never taken a dump at Fratton Park pompeygray, but have now put it on my lifetime things to do list. For some reason at the start of this season Pompey look more like bargain hunters than serious transfer contenders, Petrov 60% of his valuation, DA's wage bill (38k) probably worth every penny and now a close to half priced offer for Gareth Barry, yet 4 weeks ago there was a pot of 30 million. Sol doesn't get out of bed for 30k per week.

As Ashburton said above twice, if Portsmouth want to attract the big boys they have got to act like they are least part of the club. Unless Redknapp comes in with a realistic wages offer, the talks will take about 30 seconds and will end with three words F.O. Harry. Sol is not interested in Portsmouths 5 year plan.

I hate the Transfer Window periods. It is so full of promise and disappointment, bad rumours and gazumping where in the end you have to settle with the wallflowers. What we don't need are highly paid, money grabbing temporaries. It is a proud privilege to adorn the Pompey shirt. Sadly many only consider it when the PRICE IS RIGHT.

I get the impression (not sure where from) that Sol does not really have a clue what he is going to do. I expect him to take a while and just see what turns up, and pick the one that he fancies the most!

That's his prerogative I guess, and who can blame him? It's a bit of a unique situation in that he hasn't got an agent pulling his strings, so I'm hoping he's got the integrity to join a club for footballing reasons rather than just for dough....you never know!

I've just seen Sol coming out of the cinema, he said to me,"I enjoyed the pacing and Johnny Depp was as solid as ever but for me the first Pirates of the Caribbean film is still the pick."

it is a bit bizarre that Sol walked out of Arsenal with nowhere to go. I imagine that Harry can be very persuasive if he wants. And if he doesn't get Sol, he'll still pull somethng out of the bag

I'd like Campbell to sign for us, on a year, maybe two year deal. His best years are certainly behind him, but his experience, knowledge of the game and mere personality should help the club. The youngsters could learn a lot from him. Attracting a player of his stature could help lure more names to Fratton (only for wages to prove a stumbling block as usual!!!) Maybe his old mate Tony Adams can help persuade him? Can't see him signing though as he'd not get the wages, even though I doubt he's short of a bob or two can't see him taking a 50%, or more pay cut for regular football, think he'd prefer seeing out his career in America then moving into acting!
