Interesting enough, but nothing new really?

Interesting enough, but nothing new really?

'The Inside Story on Portsmouth' show on sky sports news last night was interesting enough although, as I and many others suspected really, it did not really show us anything new did it?

I say that, and maybe I had heard this but it has not sunk in, but news that we need gates of 14,000 for home games was new to me - the most promising thing about that area was that we are averaging 17,000 or so this season, so that is encouraging.

There was also talk of Chinese interest in the club, something that 'might' have been briefly mentioned previously but I do not think had been doing the rounds this time?

We have known about Russian and UK interest but not the Chinese, as I say, this time around.

If SOS Pompey had a different message to the one that was portrayed on the show then this was not put across. The way this message came across was that they felt the club should have invested in players...

Whilst I, well we all can, see that we did need players to come in last month I cannot see how anyone can seriously justify wanting us to splash out further money on players?

Well too much anyway, considering that we still owe millions to creditors and are paying out millions, and more than we would want to, each month in wages.

Yep there is a 'duty of care' from the owners I agree, although, and even if it might not seem like it, is it not more of a duty of care NOT to increase debt further, so was that not actually the case last month?

We are short on numbers but there should be more than enough quality, and ability, in this squad to keep us up and that is priority no.1 this season.

By paying inflated prices that January's window invariably brings, and increasing a wage bill in the process, that would have pushed us further to our limits that are being stretched financially already, would it not.

I maintain my thoughts that the summer is when we will see a truer picture of what is in store...

There will be a MASSIVE turnover of players again, many of who are on massive wages, so they will go unless they take a dramatic pay cut.

For the players out of contract that are leaving, and I suspect there will be at least 4 of them, I reckon we could bring in at least double that amount in decent championship standard players and still be paying out less for all of them than we would these players.

Players out of contract, and minimal transfer fees paid will be the order of the day in the summer - this is not to say that the standard of player will not be good enough, they can and will be if we pick up the right ones.

Anyway, I do stray...

As I said the show was interesting enough, and actually portrayed the football club and fans in a pretty good light I thought, but it did not really divulge anything we did not really already know but threw up a few useful things and recapped a few others.

Agree there Rug it showed the club in a good light and blamed 'others' for the mess - you know who you are! The interview with Bob Beech though was a farce and showed the tiny minority fans rather than the vast majority who understand the mess we are still in.

With the absurd "SKY" money in football, do the latest cup results not prove once and for all, that these "prima donna" footballers are not worth it. Save your money and bring on local talent and players who wish to wear the shirt.

I i did like a few things. Learning that we now only need a gate of 14,000 was good news and shows how the wage bill has come down. Learning our wage bill was £3.4m per month was frightening. Hearing BC put his point over was the SOS teams wanted was it not? Yet there spokes team appeared to want to invest again? And learning fro SC that if it hadn't been for Fergie, Pullis, McCarthy etc, we would have had to forfeit games and been deducted more points and relegated befor Xmas. It's nice to see that some managers were willing to help us, unlike last year when all the prem clubs were portrayed as wanting our blood. I gather that it was not ALL clubs after all, just the majority?

I missed the report... is it worth me trying to catch it somewhere? The £3.4m wage bill is no exaggeration and it answers a lot of the quesions the 'Tell us where the money went' brigade keep asking. Add to the wage bill the NI and tax, offshore payments, bonuses, pension etc and it will be well over £4m shelled out on people costs per month. Three years of that is £150m before any other operating costs, interest payments, agent fees, sell-on clauses and many millions of loan repayments are added. Wish the morons would shut up about where has the £90m transfer fees gone.

For me, the real message was in between the me and others have been banging on for a couple of years now it became very clear that Arcadi is a Money launderer...he did something at Bieter which he then copied(albeit through Sasha) where heavy investment is followed by withdrawal followed by debts. Crooks cooking the books.

How do you withdraw money from a company?

I was moved to e-mail sky and tell them that SOS pompey represented the 6 people around that table and their reluctant familys not the thousands of normal pompey fans

    Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

    Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
