'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cotterill turns to Cotterill

As I would suspect the vast majority of us have now seen, with 'rumours' breaking late on Tuesday, Pompey look 'set' to bring in another loanee...

Steve Cotterill's Welsh international namesake David Cotterill is coming in on a 3-month emergency loan deal, by all accounts.

The winger is 'said' to have trained with us yesterday and will sign this loan deal from Swansea tomorrow to make him eligible for the weekend game.

To be honest, although I have heard of the 23-year-old, I do not really know too much about him.

My mate Richie does thought, and had this to say: 'he signed for Wigan back when Jewell was the manager.

'Flopped a bit but done reasonably at Bristol City and Sheff United.

'So talent there but under the right person.'

So, the question is can Pompey, and Steve Cotterill, unlock that talent?

Lets hope, as long as this deal is confirmed, we can answer this with a resounding yes...

Looks like a good signing, hopefully he'll prove us right.

Scored 4 goals in 22 appearances last season, a couple this season, then seems to have lost his confidence after a couple of pen misses; has a rep for being a bit lazy at times and drifting in and out of games, used to he a taffy international.

Locals say there is a 28 day trial period first; who's not confident in who; me ponders?

russell - Sounds like a perfect replacement for Utaka then drifting in and out of games! The big suprise is that he doesn't appear to have any links to Stoke? Well not that I have found anyway. Extra body though will be useful.

Got to be positive that he is an attacking player, some replacement in sorts for Utaka as sneakay states. Well with 4 home games out of the next 5, all very winnable, this chunck of the season will tell us a lot about our season!!!

When was the last time a Pompey manager signed a player with the same name who was not related to him? I suggest George Smith when he signed George Smith from Barrow in the summer of 1967. He did alright so let's hope Dave does. He did go to two clubs on loan and then they signed him - so that is a good sign eh?

i'd rather have Wale's other left winger but beggar's can't be choosers and all that lol.

With a bit of luck as he will have to leave another loan player out of the squad, he can 'rest' Dickinson ha!

Pity Avram Grant didn't sign former US President Ulysses S Grant, or reggae musician Eddy Grant. Floppychops did sign Jamie, but just not for us.

    |i had the same thoughts as dave when i saw the namesake..we have had same surnames but at differant times such as john and david Gregory-a chairman too....Jim and Fred Smith,,and Kevin and Alan Ball,,,Tony and Anthony Pulis( that might beat Dave chronologically) alain and stever perrin( well sort of...and of course my first man in charge also played for us the mighty Ron- cricket playing- Tindall.
