Gary O'Neil's Dreams...

O'Neil has told The News that he is dreaming of an England call up.

O'Neil told The News 'You always dream. I played in the under 21s against a few good international sides. That gave me good experience. The full squad is a long way off. First I have to do well here.

'I have to make sure I'm a regular here and score some more goals - and hopefully the rest will look after itself.

'I've got some improving and growing to do before then. But I like to think its possible.'

'The club's moving forward. The start of last year was a bit of hiccup but we seem to be on the right track again now.

'We are trying to sign some more good players which is encouraging.

'Not I'm looking to have my first season in the top half of the Premier League'

'Anything below mid-table will be a disappointment. We've finished 13th, 16th, 17th. Its time we made the step forward.

'And once you get into that top half you never know how far you can go.

And why not. Once Golden Balls sods off it will open up that position for a few others. Good luck Gary, everyone who has a connection with Pompey would just love to see you there.

If he plays as well as last season it'd be hard for McLaren to automatically overlook him. Personally I thought Lampard/Gerrard/Beckham weren't fantastic in the WC, but they all seem too be guaranteed a place at the moment.

He will definitely need another good season to be knocking on the door of the England squad. But at least an English Manager probably already recognises his ability, having seen him in action over the last few seasons.

Unfortunatley there are another half a dozen central/holding midfielders in the mix ahead of him but still he is only 23(ish) so there is plenty of time for him. The other thing that will hopefully change with the England set up is that you do not need to play for a top 4-5 club to be considered.

Jefferson Farfan would be an excellent signing if their is any truth to the story, but it appears he has gone from about 8 a month ago to 13 million, dont know if this because he extended his contract or because its cr.p.

Good luck to him. He deserves at least a call up to the squad.

Didn't McLaren want to sign O'Neill anyway when with boro??? So he clearly knows of his ability and potential. Peter Taylor knows if McLaren doesn't. Talyor said at the end of 2005 that he'd have an outside chance of maybe being in Germany in 2006. Eriksson would NEVER have picked him, but another good start to the season, or full season and I could see him being in, or around the England squad by Euro 2008. Just pray he's still with us at the time, Liverpool keep your dirty hands off...

On this day in history...30th May

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 30th May.

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

Pitfalls of Sheffield Wednesday loanee returning

As Catlin put it 'the gamble' of aiming sign Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lavery has to be one Pompey fans understand. It isn't as cut and dried as saying 'he's a free agent' sign him!

Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!
