Pompey deadline day rumours?

So guys, here we are - the final hours of the January transfer window.

As previously said this is a window that I am starting to hate with a passion and one that seems more and more like it only benefits those that stand to benefit financially - by that I mean those that get 'cuts' of transfer fees as any that do happen in this window, the 'major ones' usually happen at the end of it.

On the flip side many clubs lose out as players that are coming towards the end of their contract go for lower fees - that said if the club he is contracted to wait until the summer they get nothing, so every cloud and all that...

Anyway, rant over.

I see that many people are saying that they either expect us to make loan moves today, or when the loan window reopens. Although you have to ask why?

A match day squad can ONLY comprise of 5 loanees - we already have that amount.

So we would have to leave out at least one loan player each week, and what would the sense be in playing a club a loan fee, and no doubt the player some - or all - of his wages if he is not playing?

The only way I could see anymore loan arrivals coming in is if we either return some of the current ones for 'better ones', which is doubtful, or try to agree deals with clubs to purchase some of the currently loanees permanently now?

I am thinking the more 'affordable' ones would be the likes of Ibrahima Sonko, who is out of contract in the summer with Stoke, or Carl Dickinson?

That said the thought of paying money, or 'maybe' forgoing a 'possible' payment from Stoke for Marc Wilson, for their permanent arrivals is not something I would like us to be doing.

'If' we are going to sign either permanently then I would only want them to come on free transfers!

Anyway, again I stray...

This thread is designed for you to put forward your ideas on what 'is' or at least 'might' happen today.

If your next door neighbours brothers friends brother, who is twice removed, has told you anything share it here so we can at least discuss it.

Anyone hearing anything may as well share with us here on Vital Pompey.

We at Vital Pompey Towers will of course do our best to keep you up to date with any 'word on the street' info we may well hear...

Rug, I started a similar thread in the forum on this subject: http://www.portsmouth.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=11

Nothing much happening at the moment though.

I'm not expecting any loan players in, but maybe Brown, Hughes or BenHaim out.

It will be intereseting if SC is allowed to use the fee we got from Utaka to actually buy another player. Saw on SKY this morning that Rangers are looking for a defender , so I guess the link to Herman going up there may have some real possibilities. I guess if the alleged 2m we got for Utaka or tho I have seen 500k in our pocket being banded about the perhaps that can go twoards getting Norris from Ipswich. They seem to value him at 2m, so perhaps something in the pipieline there?

Well unless you can get close to SC's chest then you'll not know what to expect. Would like 4 additions, probably get none.
    bluedr
2m for Utaka, you're having a laugh, he was out of contract in the summer, I heard we only got 300k for him, Which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, however i'd hope that freeing up his wages would cover us for a couple of other players and save a few grand each week.
    stooH
I think the 2m for JU is wages saved and fee....
    pompeyweller
To answer the question why more loanee's - which I'm surprised you asked- I would hazard a guess the answer might be ........ wait for it....... strength in depth. Given that we are too low on quantity and definetly too low on quality.
    russellm
France still saying it was 500 k for Utaka not 's = around 450,000 when the deal was anounced. We also don't know if that was a lump sum payment or 2-3 tranches; the main thing is the considerable reduction in wages will make an impact in the account come end of season.
    russellm
sshhhhhh....................All very quiet and no news coming my way either!! Something surely will happen on the Brown and Hughes front, won't it?
    eastneydave
If there are movements in or out let's hope there's not a repeat of the farce of just missing the deadline.
    PFCblue
At this point I'll take anyone, we just need to fill the bench.
    PompeyFrippy
thing is tho russ, with only 5 loanees allowed to be involved in a match day squad how do we benefit bringing in more loanees? at least 1 would NOT be involved in the sqaud each tim...

"Pompey deadline day rumours?" - and that's all it's turning out to be.....
    PFCblue
Just went on the BBC website Deadline Day Live bit, which has been running for 9 hours and has nearly 8,000 words, and done a search for "Portsmouth" and "Pompey... 0 Results found.
    PompeyFrippy
This must be the quietest deadline day since.... last year!
    paultsmouth
    How frickin depressing is this??????
    pentonpompey
And please dont anyone give me the "Well at least we have a team to support" crap.......it will be touch and go if we go down, whether we have one then...So at least try and show some intent on staying in this division...Because i can only see one way of travelling in the next few months, and it aint first class skywards!
    pentonpompey
The thing is if gates continue to slide, coupled with the trap door creaking open, it may be false economy not to strengthen to the extent where we can at least fill the bench! It may not take many more performances like the Burnley debacle for this nightmare scenario to become a reality!
    Emsworthianblue
Thats about my point exactly emsworthian
    pentonpompey
completely agree Emsworth and Penton, it still all a complete and utter sham, we obviously haven't been given the Utaka money cause you can buy a lot of player for 500k and now we're sitting ducks. Just got to hope to God that Hughes and Brown waive there contract extensions after the window slams shut and they realise they're going no where, which i think is possible cause i don't see them sitting on the bench all season long its just not in their nature and that probably should be enough to stave off relegation this time around
    pompeym@
i still think we will regret letting matt richie go...i fear we have had it now..div 3 again( old money-div 1 as it is now)
    plymouth graham
i only see MB and RH signing new deals and phillips coming in
    plymouth graham
honestly right now i'd take that graham, at least its something but surely our main priority has to be a natural left mid seeing as we've sold the 2 players we've played there....
    pompeym@
SC is going to have to blood some youth, better that than empty seats on the bench.. Its gutting at present, but it may work out ok
