Hughes to Wednesday? Doubtful

Hughes to Wednesday? Doubtful

Another of the Pompey players 'left in limbo' is Richard Hughes.

According to what David Lampitt had said recently there is interest in him, and the 'rumours' that are 'linking' Wednesday with a move for him tie in with the thoughts that this is from a league one side...

To be honest I reckon that Hughes could do a job at that level although their manager Alan Irvine, as he told The Sheffield Star, has 'played down' the reported interest: 'he's in a strange position: if he plays one more game or appears on a team sheet, I think, he gets a new contract at a fairly high level.

'We're aware of him. I know his dad - he did a bit of scouting for Everton in Italy. He is on wages we can't afford. I've not contacted anybody at Portsmouth about him.'

After this denial he will seal a deal to Hillsborough before 11pm on Monday then...

The again, probably not!

Will Hughesy move on at all before the end of the transfer window though, that is the question but what will be the answer?

I suspect the answer will be no...

No disrespect to Wednesday but if they are the best offer he has then he may as well have taken our reduced offer and carried on playing at a higher level.

What happens if Hughes and Brown don't sign for anyone in Jan? Do they just sit out the rest of the season doing nothing? Also have they still been training with the club whilst all this is going on?

I hope we haven't shelled out for them to go for "warm weather" training?

Whats with training abroad anyway? Surely the team would benefit from training in the conditions they'll be playing matches in? Poor excuse for a holiday!

Third time lucky? Nope as O'Shea interest ends

O'Shea saw a couple of bids for him put in; these were turned down by Chesterfield. A third bid hasn't come from Pompey and it isn't going to either.

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.
