'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Palace now 'linked' with Brown

As we inch ever closer to the closure of the January transfer window, a window that is so disruptive it is unreal and does little to benefit anyone really apart from the 'football money makers', we 'seem' to be no nearer knowing what the future holds for Mikey Brown and Richard Hughes.

Well, they will not play for us again, that much we know!

Although 'reports' coming out of Croydon today are saying that Palace are preparing a move for Brown as they seek a 'like for like' replacement for former Pompey man Shaun Derry, who they have missed as a 'man of steel' in midfield since his departure to QPR last summer.

This would be in a loan capacity...

It looks as though we are going to go down to the wire to see what the playing future hold for these two, and 'probably' The Herminator too.

I would not be holding out much hope for much, if any money, as far as transfer fees goes from the 'possible' departures of all 3 - the plus would be the wages saves, even though it would leave us even shorter in numbers than we are already.

That said I would think that departures of high earner, such as these, will dictate what last minutes 'bargain' moves we 'might' be able to make for players. These would be for players that will be out of contract at the end of the season, so we will be hoping that clubs decide to take 'minimal' fees now as opposed to no fee in the summer.

As far as Browny goes I think the fact that Palace are 'thought' to favour a loan move highlights the wages he is on, and how high they are, as the do not seem prepared to take these on in a permanent capacity...

We wont get a transfer fee and will probably pay at least 50% of the wages to the end of their contracts.... shambles really - wasnt Hermann given a new deal about 6 months ago, what was the point in that? Playing Sonks and Dicko in front of him must be pretty hard to take.. PuP

Just a thought about Hermann, He's signed a contract recently so won't his wages be at a "realistic" level? Or is that too much to ask?

Even if we subsidise Browns salary 50% to the end of the season, the reduction in over head caused will make it will be financially worth it to Pompey; and still leave some over to subsidise a replacement.
