The last few days have seen 'reports' surface that have Steve Cotterill quoted as saying David Norris DOES want to join Pompey?
According to these reports Cotterill has said that Norris has apparently indicated a desire to come to Fratton, the problem that Cotterill thinks we face - other than agreeing wages, which would probably be an issue - is the fact that an interest has been made public.
And he thinks this was done in order to drum up further interest in the player, and hence push the price up?
You could argue that he has gone public in order to try and put pressure on Ipswich to sell though?
Either way I do prefer it when such matters are conducted privately, as it winds me up when managers talk about other clubs players, that often causes an unsettled feeling...
Whatever is, or is not, happening with Norris 'could', dare I say 'should', become a lot clearer by Wednesday... 'probably'?
With Ipswich still in the league cup, and currently holding a 1-0 semi final 1st leg lead over Arsenal, even if Norris is on the move during this transfer window then he is almost certainly not going to leave before he knows Ipswich's league cup fate is he?
Then again if they make the league cup final why would he want to forgo a chance of playing in a cup final, as this would some with the potential of winning some silverware!
Many would expect Arsenal to turn around that 1st leg deficit, and assuming they did I would 'think' that if Norris really does want to leave Ipswich there would be a 'decent chance' that this would be settled by the weekend.
That said the guy is under contract with Ipswich and if they are prepared to let him run down his contract and leave on a free in the summer then that is exactly what they will do, although in this day and age of football this is not something that many clubs let happen so an offer, albeit only £250,000 could 'possibly' be enough to tempt them into selling.
Should Ipswich progress to the league cup final then I would think the chances of Norris joining us, or anyone else for that matter, end during this window. If they are knocked out then these chances of joining us, or someone else, would dramatically increase methinks...
