Norris, Brown and Hughes latest

Norris, Brown and Hughes latest

It would 'seem' that 'reports' of an offer being made for David Norris are not wide of the mark, and we have done just that?

Although it would also seem that subsequent reports that Ipswich had turned down our £250,000 offer are true, perhaps...

Even so The News are saying that 'Pompey are closing in on Ipswich Town midfielder David Norris as they step up their bid for new recruits.'

Sounds positive, right?

David Lampitt, talking to The News, has confirmed that Pompey HAVE made offers for players in this window.

So far nothing has been accepted though, but talks are ongoing as Pompey look to bring in some bargains: 'we've made offers for players in this transfer window. That's been difficult for us because we need people in now and the sooner, the better.

'We've made offers for more than one player and those discussions are ongoing but we haven't had an offer accepted.

'We're trying to get bargains where we can. If you're trying to get a bargain, you tend to get it towards the back end of the transfer window, rather than the front. Clubs will hold out to try for a better price.'

Steve Cotterill is targeting 5 signings, 3 permanent and 2 loans, although he said that he would 'settle for four'. Lampitt is hopeful that we can bring in 2 or 3: 'we recognise we need to strengthen the squad and we are probably looking for an additional two or three players.'

Lampitt also confirmed that Mikey Brown and Richard Hughes have had offers from clubs ranging from premier league to league one level.

He is 'hopeful' that a desire to 'play football' can see something agreed, and perhaps on a permanent basis: 'we've had approaches for both Brown and Hughes. It's down to the players because they've got to agree to it and agree terms.

'There has been interest from the Premier League and Championship clubs and one League One club.

'They are not necessarily loan deals. We are in their hands but I like to think that they will want to play football, either here or somewhere else.

'We will see what happens over the next 10 days.'

I would image that Hughes is the one attracting interest from league one, lower end championship at the best - with Brown, unsurprisingly, the subject of premier league, lower end, and championship interest.

Fingers crossed something, and that is good for the club and not just the players, can be arranged...

Dave Nugent is not going to Blackpool though according to Cotterill, who had denied any knowledge of an offer being made for The Nuge.

Still though, as far as I am aware, nothing has happened with Tal Ben Haim?

So that, by my reckoning, would mean that he has had at least a week where he has picked up his £38,000 and literally done nothing, not even trained with the club...

Bit of lazy journalism from the News I think. Norris we will not get for £250,000. I hope SC has a reserve list of player requests as it appears his A list might not be keen to join us.

Indeed, rumours that Wolves and QPR have made initial bids for Brown. You have to think it's league 1 for Hughes, if he won't take Pompeys salary how will he survive on league 1 outlay, I wonder but not really caring.

Hughes will obviously reject his offer of £3k a week from Pompey then cos that is the word on the streets what he has been offered.

Eastneydave, I understood it was a bit more than that at £5k, but if not it was clearly a " please leave". I would love £5k per week, or quite frankly a mere painter derisory £3k per week, after tax a respectful 7000 odd beer tokens, almost enough for a round at the American bar- or a coffee at the tower.

Millwall have snapped up Darren Purse on a free to the end of the season - now that wouldve been a decent capture and we could maybe have sent Sonko back... Just a thought! Hughes will get £20k a week to June gauranteed, whether he stays or goes - if he manages to save some of this he should just about survive on 3-5k a week! As you say Russellm - as long as he keeps away from the tower!

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

    Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.
