Campbell Deal Not Complete

Sol Campbell is apparently yet to agree to sign for Portsmouth and neither has his club. I enquired about the story, that Sol would decide today whether to sign for Portsmouth for 50k a week, to one of my contacts at Portsmouth, the reply is as follows;

Hi Les,

Although I don`t know a great deal about the Sol Campbell deal, Harry has been out in Germany and has had various meetings but these have not been with Sol. (maybe the agent)

A deal cannot be completed until Arsenal agree to it. I understand that Arsenal have spoken to Sol and given Portsmouth permission to speak to him.

50k is inaccurate as our wage budget is only 40k and as far as I`m aware Sol hasn`t agreed to a contract yet.

will be a good signing if we can agree a deal but 40k is a large wage drop

" too much to drop, he can demand silly money"

Would be a great signing, tbh I expect he'd rather stay in the Prem than go to Turkey anyway so hopefully a bit of a drop is not too off putting for him.
Tantona
yer agree but 70k abroad or 40k in prem!?!?!
lmatthews
Ah, but our top notch training facilities will surely swing it :) Seriously though, would he really want loads of dosh to disappear of the radar, and possibly drop out of the running for an England spot?
Tantona
depends if he has blown all the money he has earned already
lmatthews
40k is still a hell of alot of money for 1 weeks work! If he wants to keep trying for England it would be best for him to come to Pompey, otherwise i really see him dissapearing and never reapearing again!
sambache3592
yer i think pompey is a good move for him,IF arsenal don't want him
lmatthews
this is dragging on a while now, if it goes through u will have a very good defence next season

I thought the deal was nearly sorted. According to another site, he has no agent and has been sorting it out himself. You really cant believe all that you read. But, yea..... he would be a great signing and I think he would take that wage drop. What does he need all that money for. He got millions and millions from his career so far. Surely he will ses his career is nearing full time and just see Pompey as a challenge. I hope we get him. It will certainly make the defenders work hard for their place.

Even if we do sign him Harry will probably want to play stef and parmarot in the middle. He stuck with them even though they were woeful when they played.
thegavsters
we didnt sign d'alessandro cus he wanted 30k and sol wants 40/50k lol
pompeyman3000
Top player as he maybe, my concern is differnce in wages Sol may receive against those already paid to Mendes, O'Neil, Lua etc. It may p155 a lot of the dressing room off?
storagematt
We never actually found out what D'Alessandro was asking for his ages, we did know however according to reports it was "far greater" than 30k, probaly a ridiculously high figure which Portsmouth FC was not stupid enough to pay, if we start offering high wages to players other players will start to complain, look at Chelsea, nearly all there good players are on something like 130k a week! all because of Michael Ballack signing.
sambache3592
We copuld be using Sol as an example of the sort of player we would like, but never get, to attract others who may not yet be at their top price.
storagematt
Can't see him coming....his Sol would not be in it, but his pockets would be lined.
pompeygray
so you actually want big gay sol in your team? overpaid judas scum who will only sign for southampton when his contract is up and leave for nothing! stay well clear!
elmo85
Sometimes Sol is far from gay. I've seen him on the pitch looking really miserable.
greyhound
