Halford appeal thrown out

A brief statement on The Pompey Site today not only confirmed that the appeal against Greg Halford's sending off against Watford on New Years Day was unsuccessful it also confirmed that his loan spell with the club has ended and he is now back with Wolves...

The right back will now begin his 3-match ban, no extra has been added due to the appeal, that kicks in on Wednesday when Wolves play Chelski. He will also miss their FA cup game and then the next league game, a week Saturday I would guess?

To be honest it makes sense for him to train with Wolves during this suspension as he can also spent time with his family and this means less commuting back and forth in the meantime, although it has been 'said' that Wolves have agreed to extend his loan until the end of the season.

So, 'hopefully', he will be back with Pompey soon...

Maybe, albeit it 'unlikely' some form of 'swap deal' could be done with Wolves to see him come to Pompey, ideally permanently, in exchange for Mikey Brown, who is 'said' to be interesting Mick McCarthy?

The problem with this idea is Halford is rated at £2m, and Browny would be £1m tops I would think so such a deal would take some negotiating, especially with Browny then 'probably' commanding a 'decent' wage one top!

As said, either way lets hope that Halford is back at Fratton soon.

I am the first to admit that I did not really see the need to sign him but I am glad we did as, needless bookings and sending offs aside, I think he has been top class so I would happily have him back.

Messrs Lampitt and Chainrai its over to you to make this happen...

Good point raised Rug, McCarthy is known to be a fan of Brown's so maybe a deal is in the offing; any discrepancy in fees will be off set by the salary saving of Brown's departure. I don't see that Halford had grounds for an appeal and the club took a risk doing so, however Wolves have 3 games in 8 days so the player could be back for the next weekend.

Halford wouyld be a massive signing but I'll be grateful to have him on loan if that's the best we can do. As for Brown, well a dogfight or should that be a wolffight would suit everyone.
