Pompey We Stand

Pompey We Stand

I haven`t got anything to tell you! I could do an article about a source telling a Scottish newspaper that we have had a 3.5 million pound bid rejected however I don`t think that`s true. So I`m going to tell you about why we support Portsmouth?

Every Pompey fan will tell you that being a Pompey fan has never been easy. Portsmouth where in Bankruptcy and a Mr Milan Mandaric came in and saved our club. We were still struggling at the bottom of the "championship" and survived several times on the last day of the season. (You know the story it`s your club!) Milan took us to the Premiership which he always said he would.

Portsmouth never make things easy, even when we stayed up we let Wigan score first. We also through away the lead at Charlton in the last ten minutes to provide a tense ending to the season.

Some old people and anyone with a heart problem won`t be blamed for not coming to Fratton Park next year. Except they will! If you`re not a Pompey fan you may not realise what I`m saying but you become hooked.

If you go to a Portsmouth game you are involved, you feel responsibility, you share the passion of everyone inside the ground. And if you are not 100% behind those lads in blue then you are not playing your part.

The stadium adds to the excitement and the memories of the previous match, you share a bit of banter with mates and chat to the fans around you but nothing can prepare you for the 90 minutes that follow.

Many fans would die for Portsmouth Football Club, although I don`t expect you to do this, I do expect you to be proud of whom you are, you are Pompey fan. If you want to show that with a tattoo or a car sticker then great but Portsmouth comes from the heart.

In thirty years time, the stadium won`t be there (might be!), the manager (Harry Redkanpp) won`t be there, the players won`t be there, nothing you see now will be there! You support the name and with that you support everyone and everything that is associated with the name.

Portsmouth are proud of their fans and the fans are proud of their club. Pompey we stand and Pompey we fall. Are you reading this at home? You aren`t home until the 19th of August. COME ON!!

I'd like to think you're right wallis. I 4-1 will be most surprised if we have a season of mid table obscurity mate. We don't (apparently) do them. lolol. :)

When was the last season we had F All to play for? Mid table where is that? But I would happily take one. Oh to safe by March & then listening to moaners go about how we tailed off in April. Sounds like heaven.

Les, it's more than just the name, it is living the dream, remembering the greats, reliving the nightmares, beating the enemy, as you say you aren't home until 19/8 but it doesn't mean you cannot walk past the house each day and water the flowers or scrape the bird sh.t off the windows does it?

I am amazed at Pompey, you leak your bid for Petrov at Celtic to the entire world, you sing the praises of the guy so loud anyone who missed the leak is now definatley looking. A figure of 5 million is bantered and appears to be on the money. Even his loud mouth agent wagers in saying how unhappy he is etc but Celtic dont want to sell and then we find out that you bid 3.5 million. Whats going on? Do you have a slush fund (30m)? Do you want players that will take you up a level? Have you even secured 1 new player? This is a complete and utter f..king joke. If I was the Russian Sugar Daddy heads would roll over this.

You are absolutely right, but we do this every season when it comes to new players, just let the world know who we want and then loose them. My biggest concern is that it seems the common thread to all our missed opportunities and delay in the new ground comes down to one man, Storrie, I wouldn't mind betting that when Sasha takes, over he brings in his own man who can actually cut a deal and get things moving. Lets just hope that deals have been done and we have just not been told about them yet.

There is quite an amusing story about Glen Johnson in Holland, apparantly Chelsea informed him PSV were the interested party so he went there for talks only to find out it was Feyernord who were the interested party. Would have loved to see his face.
